 A true artist possessing one of the most beautiful tones heard throughout jazz, altoist Johnny Hodges formed a style all his own early on in his career which he held to steadfastly through the decades. In Ellington’s eulogy of Hodges he said: “Never the world’s most highly animated showman or greatest stage personality, but a tone so beautiful it sometimes brought tears to the eyes - this was art and music of Johnny Hodges.” Hodges is immortalized in this limited edition print by the artist Frederick Brown as part of a series called Portraits of Music I Love.

 The recent passing of Oscar Peterson has greatly saddened his followers. Peterson, whose early talent and speedy fingers made him one of the world’s best known jazz pianists, died at age 82 on November 25. 2007. Peterson’s illustrious career spanned seven decades. Peterson played with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie.  Sarah Vaughan was an exceptional singer known by the nicknames”Sassy” and the “Divine One. Vaughan was repeatedly voted the top female vocalist by Down Beat and Metronome jazz magazines between 1947 and 1952. In 1982 her album Gershwin Live! won a Grammy Award. Vaughan received the distinguish Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award one year prior to her passing in 1989 and was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in 1990. Sarah Vaughan is one of the musicians featured in a series of portrait art prints by the artist Frederick Brown.
