POPSVenezuela Set To Launch Peaceful Nuclear Program Apart from the political fallout (no pun intended), this policy brings the energy supply crisis closer. A nuclear plant requires about 15 years to generate the huge quantity of energy (mainly oil) needed to build it. Everybody is trying to build them all at once over the next five to 10 years. Plus sources say that in about 20 years most of the uranium will be used up. And that's not to mention the vast amount of energy (mainly oil) needed to decommission them and then store their waste for thousands of years.
