The tar sands oil mining and giant hydro dams in Canada are making what is obviously a very dangerous situation for the whole world very, very much worse. The process is being aided and abetted by the US federal government which is keen to import oil from the tar sands, although some State governments want to ban it.

I would not be surprised if some kind of special drawing rights (a new currency) will be issued by the US government, specifically for the purpose of bailing out State Governments because they are too big to fail. Otherwise, banks and foreigners would not have their loans repaid.

    by JICWyllie  2-12-2010
The break up of a currency is a pretty good way of avoiding paying off debts denominated in that currency. Both the Germans and the Greeks (and the rest of the PIGs) might find common cause against the Euro. And I can't see the French fighting tooth and nail for it, either.

All those bank loans for building unnecessary real estate and factories. The game is liable to switch from bank stimulous to bank bailouts, once the bubble bursts. The Chinese government saw what happened in Japan before the crash, and then the US, and they go and make exactly the same mistake. Why are economic policy makers, whatever their nationality, so stupid?

Of course, Canada Tar Sands oil mines have been pouring huge amounts of C02 right into the heart of the Arctic for decades, and the criminal Canadian goverment plans to increase production (therefore emissions) without any meaningful controls. And the US has approved the building of a new pipeline over the melting tundra. Canadian governments, both Federal and Provincial, should be held accountable by the rest of the world for the consequences.

It just doesn't make sense. What about all the habitat that gets destroyed along the way?" Arrrghhh!!!! Please pass on ... retweet ... whatever. Somewhere I line must be drawn.
