Anybody can grow them in their garden. They are much prettier than grass and the loosen up the soil for the next crop. And with 5,000 varieties, they should be out of reach of the biotech industry. Indeed, they are the perfect recession / depression crop. Also, once you start growing potatoes, you start growing other food, too.

Go to yesterday's clip on the subject which proves that the biotech companies have no case when it comes to increasing agricultural productivity. The only case is for increasing their profits. Nuclear power surge is unstoppable
    JICWyllie
    by JICWyllie  10-7-2007    2
The price of uranium is being driven up by two factors: 1) the rising cost of oil needed in the mining and refining process and 2) the huge rise in demand as new plants are fired up around the world. One of the most irritating things about this policy is that it using obsolete technology. Investing in fast-breeder technology to burn up plutonium will become economic long before this "new" generation of nuclear plants are built. O yes, and then there's the dearth of a new generation of nuclear scientists to replace the current generation who are retiring.

    by JICWyllie  8-6-2007
The oil majors strategy makes sense. Profit as much as possible from your own dwindling oil reserves, get out of the dangerous difficult and unprofitable exploration business and concentrate on the increasingly profitable downstream refining and retailing businesses. A bonus is avoiding blame if oil proves difficult and environmentally destructive to find.

Does Clipmarks Have What It Takes for the New Web?

I hope all clipmarkers will watch this video with the intention of us incorporating as many of the ideas into this community. I believe we truly have a unique opportunity to pave the way for a better world & be a paradigm for the Web 2.0 community. One final quote... "While at first glance this book appears aimed at the business sector, the key messages and principles it explores make it a "must read" for anyone in the education sector who has the slightest interest in understanding the environment that our schools are now operating in - and perhaps to understand why for many of our young people they simply aren't working any more!"

    by JICWyllie  7-18-2007
This is true. I speak from personal experience. Now if people began to seriously invest seriously in growing trees, then we might make a step in a really sustainable direction. There are no immediate returns, but virtually guarenteed future returns, just what the wise investor needs.
