Is it news that animals show empathy?
Michlt
by Michlt  7-1-2006    1
Anyone who has had a dog or cat in their family will have recognized that animals can be empathetic to the pain and suffering of other animals and to humans. It is interesting but not surprising that mice are empathetic also.

Because he saw a TV show?? Neverthelss, for whatever reason the President made this decision it deserves recognition and praise. The next step is to put up money for ranger patrols to ensure fishing bans are upheld. To be effective in an area of ocean this big that will not be cheap -- ask the Australians. This will at least preempt legal development and exploitation . Good Move!

This is indeed remarkable. That dog must be part cat. He clearly had a spare life to cash in on. There is something oddly 'Roadrunner'-like to this story.

If you give a moose a cookie....
Michlt
by Michlt  5-29-2006
Do these animals have green cards? I think that in Central Park -- the coyote would be the one in danger. Are these animals moving because their populations are growing? Or because they are being crowed out of their homes?

Wandering River
Michlt
by Michlt  5-29-2006
For decades, or even centuries, rivers can seem a permanent fixture in the landscape. In reality, they are very dynamic and can wander off course. Many of the problems in Lousiana have come from the fact that the Mississippi is artificially trapped and cannot move to replenish the marshes.
