POPSCanadian Horse breeders oppose ID plan I can't blame the breeders for not being happy with this program, but that's the price they're going to have to pay if they want to continue to sell their "culls" off to slaughter. They have been warned for three years. Check the part where Canadian breeder Arnold McKee wants the government to "keep American slaughter animals out of Canada (YES!) because the horse market is glutted." What does this do to Sue Wallis and her horse-eating buddies' claim that lack of slaughter is why the American horse market is glutted? My god. The market is glutted because of over breeding and and the worst recession the US has seen since the Great Depression!! Sue, you people have rebuilt the American horse market to DEPEND on slaughter, so now if our horses are banned by either Canada and/or the EU - which will include Mexico too - whatcha gonna do? Call ghost busters? Just don't say we didn't warn you.

POPSCall on American Veterinary Medical Aassociation to Oppose Horse Slaughter Please take just a moment to tell the AVMA that horse slaughter is NOT "humane euthanasia"! Ask them to include all necessary information in their guidelines including this testimony by Dr. Lester Friedlander, DVM & former Chief USDA Inspector, who told Congress in 2008, "The captive bolt is not a proper instrument for the slaughter of equids, these animals regain consciousness 30 seconds after being struck, they are fully aware they are being vivisected," and GAO reports. The captive-bolt is NOT suitable for horses!

POPSPhotojournalist Seeks Court Assistance in Reporting Access I'm sure many of you are familiar with Laura Leigh and her lawsuit against the BLM for denying her 1st Amendment right to observe what they are doing to OUR wild horses on OUR public lands with OUR tax money. Laura has had to appeal to the 9th District Court of Appeals to enforce her rights because the Nevada District Court Judge has been sitting on his verdict since December! Every day that goes by without a verdict, more horses are rounded up, handled with chilling lack of concern for their lives and well-being, then trucked out, never to be seen again. POPSD.C We Have a Problem ! Wild Horses Harassed and Abused by Government Hired Helicopter Contractor A problem. Yes, I'd say we do have a problem. The problem is that no one is doing anything while the BLM and their contractors - this being Sun J - have repeatedly injured, harassed and tortured our wild horses, and will most certainly continue to do so until someone with authority steps up and says, "ENOUGH!" These sadists are being paid thousands of OUR tax dollars to harass and kill OUR Mustangs. This entire stampede and all the others are being paid for with OUR tax dollars. Not only that, how can these horses they are removing in such a cruel manner possibly be "excess" when the contractor has had to move the trap site several time because they can't find any horses! Clearly, this cannot be excessive population, and the BLM has no right to remove horses that are not contributing to overpopulation.

POPSNebraska Brand - Horse Meat? I'm not quite sure what these guys are up to in Nebraska, but it's nothing good. On the website it would appear they are selling horse meat for animal food, but they also claim it's USDA inspected "human quality" horse meat. I'm also not sure they are actually slaughtering horses themselves. I just emailed them asking the country of origin for their horse meat. Still, how would imported "human quality" horse meat be USDA inspected? You see at the bottom of the page where they invite questions? EVERYONE should ask them questions - lots of questions. Maybe we should ask the USDA questions as well.

This is the same drug that Dr. Richard Sanford used for castration at the Broken Arrow holding facility in Fallon, Nevada, causing the deaths of several geldings by pulmonary hemorrhage. POPSWhy the war on America's wild horses? Why indeed. Partly, it's what it's always been - public lands ranchers seem to forget that they are on PUBLIC LAND and begrudge the horses any of what is theirs by law. These days though, there's more to it. Even the ranchers are starting to feel a cold wind up their backs, and well they should. Big Energy is coming to take this land. There's money in them thar hills, and Big Energy is planning to make the most of it. They'll dig more open pit mines and pollute more atmosphere and ground water; they will build more pipelines like Ruby to carry more BP gas. All of these things take WATER - millions of gallons of WATER, and there's even more money to be made in water rights. Secretary Salazar has said he wants to "industrialize" the West. And they are planning to do just that - until they pump dry the aquifers that took thousands of years to fill. After that, they will leave, looking for new conquests. Not only will the horses be gone, so will everything else.

I'm sure it wasn't for the good of the horses, but it might be for the good of themselves. That seems to be the only reason the BLM does anything. POPSBLM Investigated About Horses At Slaughter Auction The BLM says they can tell a Mustang from an escaped domestic horse (estray) just by looking at them. Do you believe this for a New York minute? Neither do I. But it's SO convenient for the BLM because, while they can't legally sell federally protected wild horses to slaughter. However, estray horses aren't protected and can therefore be sold without limitation - that is, for slaughter. Wild horses can morph into estray horses if the BLM just gets tired of messing with them. Does this infuriate you as much as it does me?

POPS More Roundups Planned Despite Pleas from Congress This is it, people. If the BLM is allowed to continue the roundups scheduled for this year, it will mark the end of the line for America’s Wild Horses. In the unprecedentedly aggressive roundups so far this year, the BLM has taken has taken every herd they’ve “gathered” below the level of genetic viability - in short, they left so few horses that the gene pools in the herds are too small for long term survival. Craig Downer, the famed wildlife ecologist, has warned of this for years, and here it is. The BLM knows exactly what it is doing - make no mistake. They want the horses off the range. ALL of them. Then they can expand existing mining operations, start new mining on pristine land and start blasting the way for the Ruby pipeline - carrying BP gas, among others - across five states. If the BLM is not stopped - NOW - our Wild Horses will be extinct. And we will have paid for it with OUR taxes. Is this really what America has come to?

The BLM is in such a hurry these days - why we don't really know - that they have abandoned all pretense of caring about these horses or giving them the bare minimum veterinary attention. POPSTwin Peaks - BLM Drops All Pretense This is the real BLM in action. After the reporters were gone, it was a hell-bent-for-leather stampede in the summer heat. The BLM was moving so fast, you'd have thought there was a deadline of something. What is the freakin' RUSH? Horses were driven for miles in the middle of foaling season, rushed into the chutes so fast they got jammed in to knots, then processed without a moment to eat, drink or rest. This is what the BLM is doing with your tax money. Terrorizing horses with plastic bags on rods when the horses are already in a panic. Mares and foals completely separated, downed mare did not receive any help and there were NO veterinarians on site. As far as I am concerned, this is beyond unacceptable. It's an atrocity. It's illegal. Where are all the authorities who are supposed to prevent cruelty like this? Where is the oversight, the accountability? Where is America?

POPSWild Horse Driven Over Rocks To His Death During Owyhee Roundup This unconscionable callous cruelty to our American Mustangs must end. The BLM has killed so many and lied about it. They misled a Federal Judge in order to continue driving horses down mountains in the heat of a Nevada summer, leaving the ones that went down to die where they fell - except for the few that they shot. Now the BLM claims the deaths they DO admit to were due to "preexisting conditions" of one kind or another.
