20 Unusual Jobs - professions that a few, actually do
    alanocu
    by alanocu  3-10-2008    6
They aren’t your run-of-the-mill doctors, lawyers and the like. Some are simple, some complex; some are common, some one in a million – but one thing’s for sure – they are all (extremely) unusual. Through photography in her books, “Odd Jobs” and “Odder Jobs,” Nancy Rica Schiff portrays people working jobs you probably won’t find in the Sunday classifieds.

    Dyslexia,a self compensating mental disorder
    vickybaranwal
    by vickybaranwal  1-13-2008    1
The topic took my attention because of the famous Dyslexic people....we are not very much aware of the strengths of dyslexia. There are many examples of Dyslexic people who were lacking in learning abilities but used their imagination to be a symbol of superiority.... These famous dyslexics proof that nurturing the dyslexic capabilities contributes to their own potential and happiness. In fact, they even contribute to a better world by using their abilities: Albert Einstein used his imagination to come up with relativity theory; Thomas Edison used his to invent; Walt Disney to entertain us; Winston Churchill to rally the British against Nazi Germany; Richard Branson and other entrepreneurs to create better products and services whilst creating employment in the process.

THE WORKING POOR or THE MISSING CLASS
    thinkingblue
    by thinkingblue  8-16-2007    10
So many people fall into this category... Not quite falling into the statistical poverty class because they may earn a few dollars above the invisible line drawn by economists. Everyday is a challenge for this type of family. Vacations are few, items of luxury don't exist, food is scarce and the roof over their head is always in jeopardy. Because they claw and break their backs to stay slightly above the invisible line... they themselves become invisible. There is an old saying that "The squeaky wheel gets the oil!" and since these people are too damn busy working their tuchus' off, they have no time to squeak until it's too late and they lose their employment or become ill or lose their working partner and then one morning they awaken and find themselves in a freefall under the invisible line quickly heading for the proverbial ROCK-BOTTOM. Like these next two paragraphs in this piece state:

    Green Communism
    ColoradoRight
    by ColoradoRight  1-16-2008    2
Owning a car opens up possibilities to a person that is beyond their reach otherwise, it opens up a freedom that many millions do not currently enjoy. The ability to find work at further distances from their homes than ever gives them more choices to find lucrative employment opportunities, the ability to find markets and entertainments are also greatly expanded. All this greatly expands individual freedom. If many millions more of the people of India (and around the world) find themselves able to afford this new car, it will incredibly improve their standard of living. It will also force the government to redirect their own efforts to internal improvements to accommodate this rise in cars that will add even more to raising the standard of living in once poor countries. Green communists do not care about people and these two stories add to the ever growing proof that enviro-communists have gravitated to environmentalism as a replacement for an overt espousal of communist ideals.

    Divided - Jerusalem ?!?
    syncopath
    by syncopath  10-23-2007    2
"The paving of major transportation arteries, and recently also a rail line, created a network to serve a unified city. Even public institutions and government offices were set up in strategic locations in the eastern part of the city in order to prevent a possible division. Alongside this, the acquisition of lands and properties from Arabs, by Jewish individuals and associations, continues constantly with the aim of establishing additional facts on the ground." the report's authors mapped the neighborhoods and villages in East Jerusalem from north to south and assessed the chances of separating them. The mapping indicates that it is possible, with difficulties, to cut off from Jerusalem neighborhoods where only a third of the 240,000 Arab residents currently reside. From an economic and employment perspective, the report stipulates that separating the "neighborhoods on the edge," adjacent to the PA areas, will have a limited affect on Jerusalem's economy. However, the loss of th

Not entirely, says Blackburn. "It is also slightly worrying, because people turn to philosophers when they feel less confident and more insecure."

It's getting difficult to keep up with the Republican scandals. Here's the latest from a self professed defender of morality. Also, from the story: "He has supported a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, telling his colleagues that it was "important for us to stand up now and protect traditional marriage, which is under attack by a few unelected judges and litigious activists." "In 1996, Craig also voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies federal recognition to same-sex marriages and prevents states from being forced to recognize the marriages of gay and lesbian couples legally performed in other states." "Craig also has opposed expanding the federal hate crimes law to cover offenses motivated by anti-gay bias and, in 1996, voted against a bill that would have outlawed employment discrimination based on sexual orientation, which failed by a single vote in the Senate."

British Judge That Slammed Gore Film Exposed
    cptenaud
    by cptenaud  10-19-2007    2
Far from being an impartial jurist, Burton it turns out appears to be a reactionary conservative who has earned praise from the far-right, anti-immigrant British National Party for his ruling in 2005 that applied the nation’s Race Relations Act to cover the racial rights of White people. Hailing what it called Judge Burton’s history-making ruling, the BNP said, This now means that any organizations or companies that discriminate against a member of the British National Party are guilty of anti-white racism. The right-wing in America will stop at nothing these days to protect the profits of corporate polluters and since they have no scientific credibility at all with which to deny the man-made effects of global warming on this planet, they can only pull out the Karl Rove playbook and seek to attack the messenger. I can’t wait for the doctored 8x10 glossies of Al Gore and Britney. You know that’s coming next.

    Illegals deporting themselves
    n2sooners
    by n2sooners  8-27-2007    3
One of the counters by the amnesty crowd is always "how are you going to deport the millions who are here illegally?" My answer has always been that you won't have to deport them because they will deport themselves. If they come here for the jobs and the jobs go away, then so will they. I think the US as a whole needs to follow Arizona's example and then create a more robust guest worker program that will allow for workers from other countries to come here legally to work. But under no circumstances should we reward criminal behavior with US citizenship.
