"On Intelligence" models the neocortex (the especially human layer) as a remarkably adaptable hierarchy that learns patterns of increasing sophistication using the thalamus as a sequencing clock in a manner reminiscent of computer hardware. The Numenta model is called HTM - Hierarchical Temporal Memory. Free software and tools are available for hacker experimentation.

    You Are What You Think

Turning back the clock on the ultimate form of self-knowledge is neither possible nor desirable. We can live with the new challenges from brain science. But it will require setting aside childlike intuitions and traditional dogmas, and thinking afresh about what makes people better off and worse off.

    Five Signs of Job Burnout
    Sorgalim
    by Sorgalim  3-23-2007
These physical signs are common indicators of job stress, and demonstrate that this can turn into a physical problem. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it's time to make some changes. You can start by talking to your boss or someone in your human resources department about how you can confront the problem together by redefining deadlines, delegating or outsourcing a project or two. In her book "Stress Management for Busy People," Carol A. Turkington recommends taking these proactive steps: # Learn to say no. # Reevaluate your goals. # Reduce your commitments at work and at home. # Learn stress management skills. # Get plenty of rest and eat a healthy diet. Finally, give yourself a break. This means taking your vacation days, no matter how important you job is, and taking little breaks every day to re-group, re-energize and unwind. Remember, if you don't take care of yourself in the office, you work will suffer and your health may pay the price, too.

    by Sorgalim  3-6-2007
I love Clipmarks and Our Community...And when I read why they use Clipmarks and from where they are I ask myself what time is it in their country...and what is happening there in the news...One day I found this site and since then I'm using it...I really like it and it is very useful to me...I hope it can be to all of you too...It is different from others because it shows time from 1 - 12 with minutes not like others sites that shows from 1 - 24....

    Sorgalim
    by Sorgalim  2-21-2007
The question goes to those men like Hugh Hefner that may have a problem. The 80-year-old founder of the Playboy empire has recently expressed his desire for more kids, (he's already got four from his previous two marriages). Yet scientists aren't to sure it's such a good idea. Or that it's even possible.

Help Kids Stay Thin By Putting Them To Bed
    Sorgalim
    by Sorgalim  2-12-2007
The study did not examine why children who slept less tended to weigh more, but Snell cited a few possible explanations. Not getting enough sleep may affect hormones that influence appetite, Snell said. Getting less sleep - for example, staying up an hour later at night - may provide more opportunity to eat, she added. And she said not getting enough sleep may leave a person more lethargic, cutting down on exercise. Snell said on weekdays, school schedules can dictate when children must wake up, but parents can control bedtime.
