POPSFacebook asked to pull Scrabulous game Hrm, this just seems like a stupid way to go about it. Yes, it is a gross infringement of thier rights, however, it is one of the most popular games/apps on Facebook. I know lots of people who play it. My girlfriend decided to add scrabble to her xmas wishlist after playing it on facebook and being reminded of haw good a game it is. She got the deluxe version of the game under the tree :) As I see it, the idiots are missing out. They could make a deal witht he writers gaining the majority (if not all/nearly all) of any profits made from teh game, and use it to link to thier product, re brand it as official and make MONEY through internet sales of the real thing. Morons. Everybody is shoot first, shoot again.. shoot a little more & when everyone is dead, ask a question or two.. Reminds me of the Alberta Preimier - Domain name issue...

POPSPorn sting nets nine Canadians I can't fucking belive this. You'd think that with all the stories going around the news of investigations into child pornography, people being arrested, and the fact that people should realize by now that THEY ARE NOT ANONYMOUS on the net, that these creeps would stop??? Ugh... and Canadians, again... I feel so ashamed of my country... Wtf... The Canadian Government & Cybertip.ca have been talking for a long time about setting up a "national firewall" that blocks sites outside canada that contain child porn. This is one of the few cases where I actually support censorship. I wish they'd just fucking complete it... maybe it would stop some people...

POPSFourth person charged in Toronto human trafficking ring I have no symapthy for those who enslave or abuse otehr people, animals, etc. IMO, they should get teh highest sentances possible, in some cases when they severly abuse others (especially children and animals) they should be shot/executed. (yes, i'm pro capitol punishment) Slavers are some of the worst, most vile peole you can find. I pisses me off to no end to hear this is happening here, in Canada.

POPSThe Music Industry’s Last Stand Will Be A Music Tax The article (please read it all before you comment), basically states the idea of putting a $5-10 tax on all ISP Monthly bills. This tax would then allow you to download all the music, etc you want, DRM free without the fear of reprisals from the industry. The writer of the article seems to think this is a bad idea, however, IMO its a great idea. I know that not everyone downloads content illegally, but at least here in Canada, we all pay taxes for things we don't use or rarely use. many Canadians never get really sick or visit doctors, etc, yet they still pay taxes. Many Canadians work all their lives and never worry about being un employed, but we still pay "Employment Insurance" taxes. So maybe it would work here in Canada, and not in the US? Well, we will be better for it. Besides, what's $5 on a $80 cable & internet bill? Barely noticeable. (continued...)

POPSCES: FyreTV Brings the Porn for Ten Bucks a Month This isn't marked mature because it contains nothing (graphically) "mature"... This is an interesting concept. Granted, porn on the net is "free" (youporn, torrents, google image search, etc), but the ability to access thier entire library using keyword/concept searching is rather unique. And in DVD quality too ;)

POPSUS vs. Iran - Part II (Iran airs contrasting footage of US navy standoff) I'm actually starting to lean towards Iran's version here... This actually does sound rather fishy. Like my comment on yesterday's story, I just don't see how Iran would benefit froma confrontation with the US. The "peace talks" IMO, will do no real good. So any mischief here would nierther add to the process or take away from them in the long run. If anything it would hurt Iran, not help them. Ie: it makes no sense that they would pull this kind of move. Plus the voice just sounds too "fake" to be what an Iranian wouls say... granted, I don't know that many Iranians :P

POPSWoman wins lawsuit against drug dealer Seems to me a bit like suing McD's because your fat. Here's an idea .. You know.. teh drug is illigal for a reason. So instead of blaming your dealer, ans suing him because you were too fucking stupid to no do Meth, how about taking some responsibility... Now, don't get me wrong, the dealer deserves to be punished because, well, he's a drug dealer. But not this way. Its just too stupid. This is the kindof flagerant lawsuite you expect to see in the US, not Canada...

POPSIran Accuses U.S. of Faking Persian Gulf Video Seems a littel stupid on both sides. i mean, If I were Iran, i would not send speed boats out to pester a warship in a battle group. that;s just fucking stupid. At teh same time, I can't imagine the US being soo desperate for conflict that they'd resort to such sillyness as faking a video like this. If anything, I would guess it was a 3rd party in speed boats.. possibly Iranian, but not of the military/navy/etc. That's like blaming Afghanistan for Osama Bin laden. He wasn't a soldier. So its not exactly Afghanistan's fault. Heck I could be wrong about it being a 3rd party... The president of Iran isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. PS: What really would Iran get out of a conflict with the US? nothing. they have too much to lose.

POPSChina says U.S. must do more on climate change I agree. The US (and canada, much of Eurpe, etc) are responmsible for the majority of the pollution that is the central cause of climate change. Hence, tehy should take the lead in helping to combat the issue. Asking developing nations to step up to this degree is absurd. How are they supposed to bring themselves into the 1st world if they have to pay soo much more to bring thier economies up to scale? The US already has ample power generation and manufacturing to meet its needs, China, india and others ont he toerhhand still need to grow substatially in order to com eeven close to par with us. So maybe we shouldbe helping to foot thier bill, knowing that by doing so we are helping the world overall. We should also take the lead and lead by example. The money we put into research in development is a great way to make it cheaper and more affordable for devloping nations.

POPSTeenagers charged in "Mortal Kombat" tragedy Read the rest of the article, the writer makes some very good points. These kids were old enough to know better, any sane person can't place the blame on video games. the could have gotten the idea form any visual media. Movies, TV, etc. There was alchahol involved. If thye had have been watching a Van-Damm mvowie before hand the same outcome would ahve likely been reached. Stupid people make me mad. They just gave the anti-video game camp a hand of ACES in the media... Here's an idea.. take resposibility for your own fucking actions.. What about the parents here.. obviously these "kids" should not have been left in cahrge of a 7 year old...

POPSSan Fransisco may put a tax on pop & sugary drinks
I've been a proponent of this for a LONG time. I'm not talking about 100% fruit juices, I'm talking about "Cocktails" (drinks laden with high fructose corn syrup & other sugars placed in artificially sweetened drinks). Pop is a key target IMO, it is heavily laces with sugar. Though I think all pop (non-diet or otherwise) should be taxed. The money raised from these taxes should go towards subsidizing 100% pure juices & blends (which still must contain 100% real juice, just not of one variety). I also think tax should be places on all junk foods like chips, chocolates & candies, fast foods, and high-slat/fat processed foods. The money from those taxes should be used to subsidize the price of vegetables, pure dairy & meats (of the non-processed variety). Too many families eat crap because they can't afford good food. I remember this all to well growing up. We lived off kraft dinner, mr. noodles, "fish sticks" and other processed foods because real food was too expensive.

POPSNotorious Pedophile NOT CRIMINALLY INSANE, moved to maximum security jail from loony-bin Okay.. the clipping capabilities/restrictions fail here.. I'll summarize to make it more clear. This guys was in a mental institution for life without parole (ever, ever, ever). The crown prosecutor decided to go after him and prove to/convince a judge that the guy was not in fact criminally insane, and that he was just a very, very dangerous creep. The judge agreed and threw him in a maximum security facility where he will rot until he dies or the world ends.

POPSPron company tries to datamine facebook, gets sued Datamining sites like this is nothing new. The new thig is basically that many people (me included) put much of thier life ont ehse sites. We assume the provider is doing everything it can to protect our privacy (in Facebook's case, this seems to be a problem that keeps rearing its ugly head). The info I have on Facebook I'm not worried about. I'm not really paranoid. I'm sure with teh right datamining & analysis tools once could beuild a rather impressive psych profile of me. So what? If I was in the states or Britian, I might be more worried.

POPSPredator attacks 11 year old walking home at 1:00 am Ok, I don't know where to start here... For one thing this bastard deserves to be castrated. However, what the fuck was an 11 year old girl doing walking home at 1 AM??? The parents shouldbe charged as accomplices in the crime IMO. It was thier incompitence as parents that let this happen. It makes me want to scream. Its easy enough for these creeps as it is.. you serve your 11 year old on a silver platter? you deserve to be shot. That's just my opinion though.

POPSThe Black KKK? (re: Taylor's death a grim reminder for us all)
Ok.. it was really hard to clip this article, so please go read it for yourselves & come back and comment. Also, keep in mind this was written by Jason Whitlock, an African American columnist for the Kansas City Star. I say that because when I read it, i was all like: "If a white-dude wrote this, he's dead". Which tells you exactly what kind of world we live in. I completely agree with Whitlock, society and the culture around hip-hop has a lot to do (IMO) with how our kids, see the world. Music, movies, Games glorify violence, illegal activity, etc. IMO its a form of abuse. Now, I'm a full proponent of free speech, and I don't think pretty much anything should be censored from the public, what I do think is that our parents, our educators, or communities have to do more to raise kids to know the difference between fantasy, and reality. We also have to put more effort into helping those who don't necessarily have the means to "rise above".

POPSManitoba tables expansive child porn bill
Though I feel all measures that can be taken to protect children and find those who would harm them or distribute such filth should be taken, I'm not sure I completely agree with this law. Putting the onus on the individual who finds the porn on someone's machine, is a little scary. I mean, sure people should report finding child pornography if they happen across a site on the net that contains it. That's a given. But what if this was a loved one? I'd think that I'd want to try and help them. I mean, it is a psychological disorder, similar to many others. Some specialists think it may even be a sexual preferences similar to homosexuality, bisexuality, etc. (I have a hard time stomaching that). So if there is an option to get the person help without ruining their lives and those of their loved ones, then I think I would want to try that course first. Unless of course I had evidence that they actually assaulted a child. Then I'm sorry, but they have crossed the line...

POPSPublic input sought on blacks-only school This just seems like a really, really dumb idea. Here we are trying to stamp out racism and encourage diversity and these dolts are trying to open a school that would only admit children of a specific race. No better way to breed ignorance, intolerance, etc. What would happen if they opened a white's only school? (yes, they exist due to population, but not to policy). I understand that research shows that students in "ethnically centered" schools tend to be happier, but that just shows there's something wrong with current schools, that we are failing the students in diverse schools. Fix the problems we have, don't create more. Retarded.

POPSHow does 20 years in jail sound for hacking your grades? It seems a little wrong that hacking your grades can net you the same/similar sentence as possessing child pornography (imo, the most heinous of crimes next to actually assaulting a child). Doesn't this seem a little overkill? I mean, yes, they stole a password and used it to get into a system and change their grades. But 20 year + $250,000 fine? WTF? I can only imagine how much time they'd have to serve if they actually committed a real crime. In most places they might have been kicked out of school and gotten a fine/community service. It's not like they broke into Oakridge or Livermore with the intention of stealing nuclear secrets. Granted, they haven't actually be convicted/sentenced yet, but come the fuck on... 20 years? Really?

POPSProposed Law Could Be a Cold Shower for YouPorn
This is a tough one (for most of us). A: We MUST protect kids online. No sane person disagrees with that. B: We MUST have personal freedoms, that includes posting pictures/videos of you & your partner nude, etc. As long as the place you are posting is protected against kids accidentally accessing (ie: labeled properly with text & meta-data that let's filtering software know to block it) This law is meant to make it hard to post material containing images/video of individuals under the age of 18. Right now, I suppose a provider could claim thay weren't sure when a video may contain an individual that is actually 16-17. With the new law, this would be MUCH harder, if not impossible (without fake IDs, etc). Unfortunately, it would also make it very hard for the average poster to post their legal video as well. And it makes it hard and expensive for the hosting sites to collect, verify & maintain the data. I wonder, if this might be a slight bit of overkill? What do

POPSCanadians soon to pay taxes on legal music downloads Yes.. so let's punish the people who are legally downloading our content.. that'll make them want to continue to do so... You know what? Forget it. I'm going back to pirating my music. I've been paying for Napster pretty much since it was avaialbe in Canada as a legal service. And yes, the tax would only amount to a few cents a month, but that's not the point. Your punishing me, your loyal client. And that excuse about Oh, i may make a copy fo rmy {device anme}. Is BS. I PAY EXTRA ALREADY to legally copy these tunes to my mp3 players..($15/moth for the to-go service as opposed to $10/month). FUCK YOU RECORDING INDUSTRY! You won't get another cent from me until you smarten the fuck up. And I thought will all the big labels starting to switch to DRM-Free, that you might have gotten a clue... The funny thing is that apparently CRIA (our version of RIAA) may have been in opposition to this tax...

POPSDaddy's Girl: A secret sexual relationship with his daughter was not enough. It's a long story, but holy crap... All I can say is: "what the fuck?" I can handle cousins getting toghether, and maybe.. MAYBe a brother & sister if they are not related by blood and didn't grow up together... There's no "figure of authority", etc issues there... there are issues.. but eh... but I can't handle a father doing this to his daughter.. THAT is unforgivable. PS: Here's the followup: McMahan Family Values w t f....

POPSPolice warn of internet luring I don't know how many times I've told people to keep an eye on what their kid is doing on the net. The issue is that: a: You want to protect your child b: you want to trust your child - monitoring makes kids feel like you don't trust them... Anyone have any idea how to both keep your kid safe and give them leeway to feel trusted and not under one's thumb? My girlfriend and I are about to have our first child. And I know I've got a few years at least before I really have to worry about this, but I've had friends/co-workers who have kids ask me what they can do to protect them. I usually recommend a good hardware firewall setup to filter the more obvious of the internet's traps. I also recommend that they talk openly with their kids, if your children feel they can talk to you and that these things are not taboo, then I think they are less likely to get in these situations and more likely to report if someone has tried to lure them. IMO: Knowledge == Safety

POPSGore and UN Panel win peace prize Good for him and the IPCC. Its getting hard for the deniers to get any leverage when every sane person out there has come to terms with the "Inconvenient Truth" that is climate change.

POPSTeen to face charges in kitten killing If it were up to me, I'd beat the kid to death with the golf club he used on the kitten and hang him for his peers to see... good object lesson. No, I don't wonder why people shouldn't put me in charge of Justice ;)
