Facebook asked to pull Scrabulous game
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  1-17-2008    3
Hrm, this just seems like a stupid way to go about it. Yes, it is a gross infringement of thier rights, however, it is one of the most popular games/apps on Facebook. I know lots of people who play it. My girlfriend decided to add scrabble to her xmas wishlist after playing it on facebook and being reminded of haw good a game it is. She got the deluxe version of the game under the tree :) As I see it, the idiots are missing out. They could make a deal witht he writers gaining the majority (if not all/nearly all) of any profits made from teh game, and use it to link to thier product, re brand it as official and make MONEY through internet sales of the real thing. Morons. Everybody is shoot first, shoot again.. shoot a little more & when everyone is dead, ask a question or two.. Reminds me of the Alberta Preimier - Domain name issue...

Woman wins lawsuit against drug dealer
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  1-9-2008    2
Seems to me a bit like suing McD's because your fat. Here's an idea .. You know.. teh drug is illigal for a reason. So instead of blaming your dealer, ans suing him because you were too fucking stupid to no do Meth, how about taking some responsibility... Now, don't get me wrong, the dealer deserves to be punished because, well, he's a drug dealer. But not this way. Its just too stupid. This is the kindof flagerant lawsuite you expect to see in the US, not Canada...

Iran Accuses U.S. of Faking Persian Gulf Video
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  1-9-2008
Seems a littel stupid on both sides. i mean, If I were Iran, i would not send speed boats out to pester a warship in a battle group. that;s just fucking stupid. At teh same time, I can't imagine the US being soo desperate for conflict that they'd resort to such sillyness as faking a video like this. If anything, I would guess it was a 3rd party in speed boats.. possibly Iranian, but not of the military/navy/etc. That's like blaming Afghanistan for Osama Bin laden. He wasn't a soldier. So its not exactly Afghanistan's fault. Heck I could be wrong about it being a 3rd party... The president of Iran isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. PS: What really would Iran get out of a conflict with the US? nothing. they have too much to lose.

Read the rest of the article, the writer makes some very good points. These kids were old enough to know better, any sane person can't place the blame on video games. the could have gotten the idea form any visual media. Movies, TV, etc. There was alchahol involved. If thye had have been watching a Van-Damm mvowie before hand the same outcome would ahve likely been reached. Stupid people make me mad. They just gave the anti-video game camp a hand of ACES in the media... Here's an idea.. take resposibility for your own fucking actions.. What about the parents here.. obviously these "kids" should not have been left in cahrge of a 7 year old...

How does 20 years in jail sound for hacking your grades?
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  11-6-2007    1
It seems a little wrong that hacking your grades can net you the same/similar sentence as possessing child pornography (imo, the most heinous of crimes next to actually assaulting a child). Doesn't this seem a little overkill? I mean, yes, they stole a password and used it to get into a system and change their grades. But 20 year + $250,000 fine? WTF? I can only imagine how much time they'd have to serve if they actually committed a real crime. In most places they might have been kicked out of school and gotten a fine/community service. It's not like they broke into Oakridge or Livermore with the intention of stealing nuclear secrets. Granted, they haven't actually be convicted/sentenced yet, but come the fuck on... 20 years? Really?

Canadians soon to pay taxes on legal music downloads
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  10-22-2007    3
Yes.. so let's punish the people who are legally downloading our content.. that'll make them want to continue to do so... You know what? Forget it. I'm going back to pirating my music. I've been paying for Napster pretty much since it was avaialbe in Canada as a legal service. And yes, the tax would only amount to a few cents a month, but that's not the point. Your punishing me, your loyal client. And that excuse about Oh, i may make a copy fo rmy {device anme}. Is BS. I PAY EXTRA ALREADY to legally copy these tunes to my mp3 players..($15/moth for the to-go service as opposed to $10/month). FUCK YOU RECORDING INDUSTRY! You won't get another cent from me until you smarten the fuck up. And I thought will all the big labels starting to switch to DRM-Free, that you might have gotten a clue... The funny thing is that apparently CRIA (our version of RIAA) may have been in opposition to this tax...

$1 million pledged to post bond for "sex offender"
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  6-26-2007    3
ilson, explaining why he and his friends were prepared to offer $1 million to a young Georgia man they had never met, said Wilson seemed to have overcome many obstacles in his life to achieve academic and athletic success. "He is the kind of young man we should be celebrating, not incarcerating," Tilson said. "And if you were to ask most men to go back and think of their teenage years and think of the most reckless and foolish thing they did, and then ask how they would feel if that was videotaped … I think there would be a little bit of fear among most of us." Wilson was convicted in 2005 of aggravated child molestation. The law then on the books required a minimum of 10 years in prison and a lifetime on the state's sex offender registry for an oral sex conviction, a penalty more severe than that for intercourse.

Student removed from school & banned from graduation for creating map of school
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  5-3-2007    2
Apparently, the kids created a map-mod of his school so he & his friends could play it in a game (like counterstrike or some other multi-player game, probably fps). Now I understand why some might get their panties in a knot over this, but I think it was likely innocent. Back in the day, my buddies and I did the same thing, creating a map of our school in i think doom or quake. We did it fir fun, not to "practice" killing our fellow students, but simply because we thought it would be fun play in a familiar map. That and it was a lot easier than dreaming up our own maps. Our lab prof thought it was fantastic and even played with us once (he was terribly horrible, but we thought it was awesome that he encouraged us to be creative). I think this kids was just doing it for fun, with no malicious intent. Now, however he has every right to be angry, they painted him as a terrorist & potential murderer, this will probably go on his permanent record even if he is cleared.

Zoning Rules Thwart Gore's Solar Dreams
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  3-21-2007    6
Eat that gore haters... He has been trying since he bought the damn place to make it carbon neutral (or as close as he can get, while still making the home comfortable, etc) since he bought it. The best quote: Terry Franklin, Belle Meade's building officer, said the town only allows power generating equipment to be placed on the ground level. "Solar panels are generators," Franklin said. Not all energy generators are alike.. Solar power panels produce little to no sound. Later in the article they mention that the new bylaw allows that "Solar panels may be installed upon the roof of a building so long as they are not visible from the street or from any adjoining property" . These people need to get over themselves.. solar panels aren't going to make the neighborhood into a slum... they've even developed solar panels that look like and are attached as roof shingles... with this new bylaw, they've effectively made those illegal if they can be seen.       Creates an imperceptible physical film on the skin - ooo! .. omfg.. you know the sad thing? People will buy this believing it will actually work... You can spritz it over bare skin, over moisturiser and make-up, at any time and as often as you like. But if you’re going to apply it just once in the day, make it first thing. Remember Artificial Electromagnetic Waves are present 24 hours a day and affect men’s skin as well as women’s! You would have to frikin bath in it completely, to stop the "Artificial Electromagnetic Waves" from breaking through to your skin... This has to be one of the most ridiculous skin care products ever... What makes them "artificial" anyway??? How are those worst than naturally occurring ones?

FYI: Thre are no guns in Bully, no bombs, .. what ther is is the characters fists and the worst weapon you can get is a baseball bat. Now, I'm not sayin it is not violent.. most games have atleast a little violence in them.. but there is not way it can even be compared to columbine! F'ing stupid.

    Vista is power hungry...
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  10-20-2006
Article outlines what you'll need to run Vista in all it's "Glory"... I think the following is a stupid remark and I'd expect Wired to know better: "which means an external graphics card or processor is almost invariably required." What the hell does that mean? I didn't know there were such things as "external graphics cards or processors".. this is confusing (someone actually emailed me about this asking what an external graphics cards was and if the computer I spec'd for them (with an ATI Radeon X1900) was going to handle vista... why hadn't I told them they would need an "external graphics card").. FYI: for those of you who don't know much about computers, graphics cards are always (at least for the vast majority) internal.. it's whether the graphics card is integrated (meaning built into the motherboard) or an add-on card (plugged into a motherboard's expansion slot, usually a slot specifically for graphics cards.. like AGP or PCI-Express 16). Vista requires the latter.
