Teenagers charged in "Mortal Kombat" tragedy
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  12-20-2007    3
Read the rest of the article, the writer makes some very good points. These kids were old enough to know better, any sane person can't place the blame on video games. the could have gotten the idea form any visual media. Movies, TV, etc. There was alchahol involved. If thye had have been watching a Van-Damm mvowie before hand the same outcome would ahve likely been reached. Stupid people make me mad. They just gave the anti-video game camp a hand of ACES in the media... Here's an idea.. take resposibility for your own fucking actions.. What about the parents here.. obviously these "kids" should not have been left in cahrge of a 7 year old...

The Black KKK? (re: Taylor's death a grim reminder for us all)
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  11-29-2007    1
Ok.. it was really hard to clip this article, so please go read it for yourselves & come back and comment. Also, keep in mind this was written by Jason Whitlock, an African American columnist for the Kansas City Star. I say that because when I read it, i was all like: "If a white-dude wrote this, he's dead". Which tells you exactly what kind of world we live in. I completely agree with Whitlock, society and the culture around hip-hop has a lot to do (IMO) with how our kids, see the world. Music, movies, Games glorify violence, illegal activity, etc. IMO its a form of abuse. Now, I'm a full proponent of free speech, and I don't think pretty much anything should be censored from the public, what I do think is that our parents, our educators, or communities have to do more to raise kids to know the difference between fantasy, and reality. We also have to put more effort into helping those who don't necessarily have the means to "rise above".

Teen to face charges in kitten killing

If it were up to me, I'd beat the kid to death with the golf club he used on the kitten and hang him for his peers to see... good object lesson. No, I don't wonder why people shouldn't put me in charge of Justice ;)

The Romeo and Juliet Effect: Why Christians Keep Having Sex Before Marriage
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  5-2-2007    3
A pretty interesting article, apparently written by an "evangelical" explaining why teens will continue to have sex before marriage & where society fails in stopping it. Personally, i have no issue with sex before marriage as long as both are consenting and mature enough to understand the ramifications physically, psychologically & socially. The meat of the article is further down, with some pretty interesting figures such as: The flash memory of mobile phones taken from (Saudi Arabian) teenagers showed 69.7% of 1,470 files saved in them were pornographic and 8.6% were related to violence.

Ok, I get the whole "but they we acting in a way that could be construed as violent or inciting violence.. blah blah {insert columbine comment here}" But come on... from the sounds of this article, this is the most students who have participated in anything at one time together in that school in ages... suspensions? get life.

Prsonally I think this is both amusing and disgusting.. I guarantee that there people out there who would buy this game for their kids and wouldn't buy bully... At least in bully you don't teach intolerance based on race & religion.. nor do you mow people down with a shot gun... Sick if you ask me...

    Judge clears Bully game release
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  10-20-2006    2
Jack thompson is an idiot... # for his flagrant use of the term "Colimbine simulator" in reference to bully, a game he has never played, nor even seen... FYI: Thre are no guns in Bully, no bombs, .. what ther is is the characters fists and the worst weapon you can get is a baseball bat. Now, I'm not sayin it is not violent.. most games have atleast a little violence in them.. but there is not way it can even be compared to columbine! F'ing stupid.

"Bully" must be handed over to a judge within 24 hours... Jack Thompson strikes again.

    by TheCatWhisperer  10-12-2006    1
Now, not that I necessarily disagree that a judge would need to view a game in it's entirety to be able to rule if it is a nuisance, but why video games? I mean, do courts order that 50 Cent's latest album must be reviewed by the court to make sure it is not a nuisance? Another thing that bothers me is that games ARE reviewed, just as movies, music, actually, more in depth than music is.. Music just gets an label, which does not stop it from being sold to kids in most cases. FYI: "Bully" is rated 'M', meaning it's not supposed to be played by kids...

NYT: The Long Zoom (or: how Will Wright could change the world)
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  10-11-2006
The article is more or less about Will Wright's new game "Spore". For those of you not "in the know" this game diverges from the rest... there e is very little violence, and the small amount in it is cartoonish, and not glorified. The games' concept starts at the cellular level, allows you to build a create from a single celled organism, then a tribe, society, civilization, planet, galaxy, universe, all the while learning about diversity, and cause-effect actions. Making your creature a predator (literally, as in the Arnie sense), while allowing your creature to better survive in the wild or as a tribe can have harsh consequences when you meet other civilizations. Likewise, making them an herbivore can make it hard dot survive predators at all... Read the article.. It's quite interesting.. it just irks me that the damned game won't be out till mid-late next year at the soonest!!

'Grand Theft Auto' makers blamed for triple killing
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  9-29-2006    8
Give me a #%&ing break! Stop blaming video games because you neglect your kids!!!!! Video games don't breed homicidal maniacs, bad parent, bad schooling, bad society does! (With a healthy (or unhealthy) smattering of mental disorder...) These pricks are likely just wanting to blame someone for their own miserable failures, and are seeing big price tags at rockstar & co. It's pathetic.

The Political Game: Who will save gamers?
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  9-25-2006
I'm so sick and $%&@* tired of people blaming violence in the youth culture on video games. How friggin ignorant do you have t be to believe that a kid who plays "grand Theft Auto" will turn into a homicidal maniac? Kids have been killing each other far longer than video games have been in the main stream (long before they were even in existence). It's sad that a comedy-satire show has to show us how absurd many of these legal actions are. I've played video games all my life. I had a VERY, VERY #*%&'ed up childhood. Dealt with physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, was bullied in school (until I reached about grade 10), and though the though of teaching a bully a good object lesson crossed my mind, I like the VAST majority of my fellows believed it would solve nothing. "Cold Case" the other night did a great job of showing how people blame violent video games. "you played maniac massacre, you must have loved the thought of killing people!".. oh blow it out your igno

School Moves to Block Bully Game by Rockstar (of GTA fame)
    TheCatWhisperer
    by TheCatWhisperer  3-14-2006    24
Ok, so I am usually all for the game makers and thier right to sell games. But in this case, I am on the fence, and even leaning towards supporting the schoolboard. This game is obviously targeted at teens. And the rating it will get will be M (for Mature, meaning you must be at least 17 to buy it). That being said, is Rockstar responsible if violence happens as a result of kids playing this game? Or are parents responsible here too? One can argue that GTA was always meant as an "Adult" game, that Rockstar never intended for it to fall into the hands of children. But this game, "Bully" takes place in a private school, and seems to be aimed at senior high school grade kids. (Most kids are about to enter university at 17, the legal age to buy an M rated game). Personally, I think this game is in just bad taste, and Rockstar is just asking for trouble. Why make this game? Again, I'm usually for the game industry and hate the idea of games being censored. Not here though
