POPSTeen to face charges in kitten killing If it were up to me, I'd beat the kid to death with the golf club he used on the kitten and hang him for his peers to see... good object lesson. No, I don't wonder why people shouldn't put me in charge of Justice ;)

POPSThe Romeo and Juliet Effect: Why Christians Keep Having Sex Before Marriage A pretty interesting article, apparently written by an "evangelical" explaining why teens will continue to have sex before marriage & where society fails in stopping it. Personally, i have no issue with sex before marriage as long as both are consenting and mature enough to understand the ramifications physically, psychologically & socially. The meat of the article is further down, with some pretty interesting figures such as: The flash memory of mobile phones taken from (Saudi Arabian) teenagers showed 69.7% of 1,470 files saved in them were pornographic and 8.6% were related to violence.

POPSVenezuela's rouged revolution Kind-of extreme... especially the part about the girls asking (and some getting) breast augmentation as young as 13... (also liposuction, etc..) In the paper edition, there was a picture showing Ornela Maria. When I first glanced at the page, I thought she was probably about 16-18... Then I saw 10... There's something wrong when a 10 year old dresses like she's 18... makeup and all... Kids are getting too old too young.. and I'm a liberal.. about as liberal as they come (unless I'm talking about crime & punishment)... but this is wrong.. this kid should be out playing with dolls... But you see this a lot now, young girls, as young as 7 or 8, dressing in clothes that a dozen years ago would likely have gotten the parents a visit from the Children's Aid Society... What the hell is going on???

POPS"Angry dad hurt her, says teen Internet flasher" - Moral: Don't buy your kids Webcams! OMFG... Ok, the guy had no right to assault his daughter no matter what she did. He should NOT have bought his daughter a webcam.. I don't know how many parents I've told this to... if you MUST, then put it in a common room, not their bedroom or a room with a door! Also, the father apparently is under investigation for previous incidents of assault involving his daughter. PS: I think technically, under Canadian law, both the girl, her father's girlfriend (owner of the computer), and the boy in PEI could be charged with possession, distribution & production of child pornography. Scary, huh? (the woman because it is her computer) PPS: the father sounds like a real winner.. read the rest of the article...

POPSFederal Rules Back Single-Sex Public Education Not really sure this is a good idea. My main issue is with the kids not having the proper exposure to the opposite sex. this may only lead to more discrimination between the sexes and more ignorance. Though the basic ideas (those being that when boys and girls are separated they are easier to teach, and that you can focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the sexes (math strong for boys, literature strong for girls, which I'm not sold on)) are not too bad, I don't think that segregation of sexes will lead to any good. I see instead more bad coming out of this... My other issue, is they say it is voluntary.. for whom? The child or the child's over protective parents?

POPSDirty dancing has some city high schools hot and bothered
Ok, this is an interesting article, especially since it is from (literally) my back yard, Halifax West is just behind my building. IMO, these kind of things have been going on forever, and the issue to me is not "lewd dancing" or kids showing up drunk or stoned, but more that the chaperones LET it happen. There are rules: "If you are drunk, stoned, etc, you are out, no more dances for that student for the year", if you are getting a little too cozy, you are asked to stop. If you don't you are out for that dance & possibly the next one. Clothing a little too risqué? no admittance, and if you changed while at the dance into something more risqué, you were out. In all cases parents are supposed to be called. The silly part is, that these rules are not enforced, and instead of enforcing these rules, they would rather drop the dances entirely... Way to teach kids how to respect rules, etc. I attended schools that enforced, and didn't. The ones who did had very few issues.

POPSEvangelicals Fear the Loss of Their Teenagers Interesting article. I like how they point to MTV & yout cuture as culprits.. probably rightly so. Kids these days have soo much access to information, so much ability to communicate with other kids from around the country and around the world, and such mixed messages from media, etc it's not hard to see why this is happneing.

POPSThe Political Game: Who will save gamers?
I'm so sick and $%&@* tired of people blaming violence in the youth culture on video games. How friggin ignorant do you have t be to believe that a kid who plays "grand Theft Auto" will turn into a homicidal maniac? Kids have been killing each other far longer than video games have been in the main stream (long before they were even in existence). It's sad that a comedy-satire show has to show us how absurd many of these legal actions are. I've played video games all my life. I had a VERY, VERY #*%&'ed up childhood. Dealt with physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, was bullied in school (until I reached about grade 10), and though the though of teaching a bully a good object lesson crossed my mind, I like the VAST majority of my fellows believed it would solve nothing. "Cold Case" the other night did a great job of showing how people blame violent video games. "you played maniac massacre, you must have loved the thought of killing people!".. oh blow it out your igno
