POPSTroops are just expendables to this Government. There have been many cases already of soldiers taking the lives of their family members. And then committing suicide afterward. If you were sent to Hell 3 and 4 times and seen the inhumanity of it. Would you not go insane?

POPSAbortion: some messages can’t be massaged Redefining the 'right' to choose. Introduction to the piece: It's time to ditch the spin and tell the truth about why women have abortions, and what would happen if they were denied them.

POPSWhy 99.9% of men should be feminists Wake up, kids. Feminism ain't about hating on men. It's about freeing ourselves, male and female, from The Man. It's about ending a system that's unfair, unhealthy and outright dangerous to most of the population, regardless of gender.

POPSThe Case for Mandatory Organ Donation Personally, I prefer the idea of reversing the organ donation code on your ID.. ie: you are in by default, you MUST say no on your ID to opt out. (n most places, including i think everywhere in Canada, you are out by default & opt-in). Mandatory donation could go against the rights of the individual, especially those who for religious reasons find it abhorrent.

POPSWhat a Whiner!!! A man lays down his life for his country and this man wants to deny him his choice of religion and keep him from using his own religious symbol on his own grave! I can't believe this. Then he whines about not being able to put artificial flowers on a grave. I guess honoring veterans is fine so long as he is able to put cheap flowers instead of the real thing.

POPSHas Our Government Lost Its Mind Completely? This is where the hysteria caused by government overreach begins to infringe on individual and constitutional rights. I certainly believe that all reasonable actions should be employed to keep us safe, but common sense and decency has to be considered in doing so. The terrorism watch list should not be used to discriminate or intimidate people who voice opposing opinions from our government, or who participate on peace marches. Hell, aren't these two of the rights we are claiming to be fighting to protect in our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? The Bushies and neo-cons have gone hog wild and they just decided that their own beliefs permits them to use the Constitution as toilet paper.

POPSHatred towards Women Bloggers... When I read this in the BBC, I thought it was just sensational journalism. I followed the link trails and went to web sites in question. Horrifying. Appalling. I remember visiting Ms Sierra's blog years ago when I started out in web design. This woman is a long time blogger advocating creativity and technology in a well written blog. I would read her stuff, zeldmans stuff among others. Why she should be threatened in an extremely frightening manner is beyond me. http://headrush.typepad.com/ While anonymity gives some freedom of expression and freedom of the constraints of identity for surfers and bloggers alike, it by no means should allow people to be able to make this extreme level of threat to another human being regardless of gender. Issues with free speech and terrorism do not necessarily mean Iraq and the war. Irrational hatred takes on so many insidious forms...

POPSMy National Security Letter Gag Order Yesterday the Washington Post published this anonymous article by the owner of an Internet access business who had been ordered by the FBI to provide them information about one of his clients. The FBI also ordered him from telling anyone about this request. The owner successfully fought the FBI, but to this day he is still gagged about the FBI's request. In the part I clipped, he talks about how the gag order has been "stressful and surreal" and how in effect the FBI ordered him to be a "secret informer for the government". Via Josh Marshall .

POPSThe Deserter's Tale - an excerpt - Joshua Key story "I found PFC Hayes holding a woman at gunpoint outside. “What are you doing this for?” she screamed. “We have done nothing to you. You Americans are ruthless!” Hayes finally lost it. Using the stock of his M-16, he slammed her right in the face. Down she went, face in the dirt. Then something happened that I dream about to this day. All the women were led back inside the house, and our entire platoon was ordered to stand guard around it. Four US military men who outranked us—I don’t know who they were—went into the house. They closed the doors."

POPS"Welfarizing" the VA: the GOP attack on veterans' benefits An editorial from the Marine Corps League by Navy veteran Robert E. McNulty, explaining how the Bush administration has been systematically gutting the mission and funding of the VA by positioning it as a "bloated" welfare bureaucracy, cutting budgets and programs, claiming that the "core constituency" of the VA represents only "disabled and indigent" veterans (rather than all vets), raising enrollment fees for vets ... and, true to Bush administration form, firing officials who object.

POPSFor the anti-smoking Nazi's continued... Some anti-smoking advocates want it banned even inside apartments. "Now people are complaining about smoke going from one apartment to another apartment," Glantz said. Glantz said the people in other apartments could be harmed since the "level of toxicity in the smoke is very very high." Frankly, I like the smoke-free zones, but the science behind them may be a myth. "I think the documented health effects of secondhand smoke are enough. I don't think we need to be stretching the truth," Siegel said.
