POPS California Prop H8 Dishonor Roll Wow. Check it out at the source. I wonder why these folks from other states spent so much money to stop we Cali Queers from marrying, with Iowa and Vermont seeing no H8 $$? Crazy! Lot's of interesting info at the site.

POPSFormer General Wes Clark, Jr. wants to know if you've HAD ENOUGH! From his blog at the Daily Kos: Enough of seeing the Constitution trashed? Enough of the corruption? Enough of the war? Enough of the gutless response of our elected Democratic representatives? If you're answer is yes, he has a suggestion. Every week, starting this Sunday, he and his friend Cenk Uyger will be going to the corner of Veteran and Wilshire in West LA, and they're asking that people in other cities to hold similar one-hour protests in their local areas to help spread the message. Obviously, I can't go myself, but I'm hoping that by posting this, maybe one or two of you will decide to go or will pass it on to your own friends. A Clark notes in his full post (click the link below to read the whole thing), the government isn't listening to any of us at this point - and the only way to change that is to get large enough groups out making it clear they've had enough that the message can no longer be ignored.

POPSWake up America. The real terrorists are in our highest office. This is my blog. This is who I am. In Vietnam I was wounded three times. Almost lost my life twice. What I saw in Vietnam mirrors what I see now. The only difference was we were able to get out of Nam. I don't see us getting out of this situation. Not with the warmongers that we have stealing this country for themselves. The truth is obvious to people with common sense. I just don't see much of that in this country.

POPSWe want More WAR, We want More WAR, NOW! A recent congressional resolution on Iran underscores the War Party's lock on the foreign policy 'debate'. Calling on the UN to bring charges of "genocide" against Iranian is yet another example of political pandering and congressional grandstanding that bears little, if any, relationship to reality.

POPSThe 14 characteristics of a fascist society Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, wrote an article about fascism which appeared in Free Inquiry magazine, a journal of humanist thought. Dr. Britt studied the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile). He found the regimes all had 14 things in common, and he calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The article is titled "Fascism Anyone?," and appears in Free Inquiry’s Spring 2003 issue on page 20.

POPSAbortion: some messages can’t be massaged Redefining the 'right' to choose. Introduction to the piece: It's time to ditch the spin and tell the truth about why women have abortions, and what would happen if they were denied them.

POPSThe American Public is Sick of Bush's False Bravado The public wants Bush to be accountable and to hold the Iraqi government accountable. They are tired of having the president permit more of our brave service people killed or maimed, and our treasury being depleted indefinitely while the Iraqi government does nothing to reach any benchmarks, and actually plan to go on vacation for two months as our soldiers continue to bleed and die in the stinking heat of Baghdad and the rest of Iraq, I really hope the public stands firm and strong, and insists that the congress force a meaningful set of benchmarks with real consequences for the Iraqi government failing to meet them. They should also tell them that if the Iraqi government takes the summer off, so are our troops. They need the rest far more than the politicians do.

POPSPentagon Puts Handcuffs on Congressional Testimony Once again the Bush Administration attempts to make an end-run around checks and balances and keep congress in the the dark. I, as a citizen, cannot understand how they believe they can get away with this. Congress, as the voice of the people can also legitimately be considered the ears of the people. WE control and empower the Pentagon. THEY DO NOT CONTROL US. Those they seek to muzzle are, effectively, US, as every soldier is a citizen first. When Congress yanks the chain, the Pentagon choke-collar gets tighter. It is that simple.

POPSHow Faith and Community Dominate Foreign Policy A really good op-ed piece on how to understand the intricacies of societies where politics and religion do mix without any negative connotations. I have only clipped a little, highly recommend a read at the source.

POPSEducate Your Parents! Geeez. There's just something creepy about this kid, that reminds me of myself when I was little. All-knowing and opinionated... naaaa, I think it's the clothes. *LOL* (PS) BEWARE! There's a bit of foul language in the music at the end. Now ya know. (The f-word...)

POPSRudy Giuliani's Hubris Shamefully Exploits 9-11
Oh Rudy, hubris runs deep among you Republicans. Your shameless exploitation of 9-11 is a deep seated example of the excessive pride and arrogance of the right. Hubris generally is the precursor to downfall or destruction in classical tragedy. The hubris of the Bush White House led to the quagmire in Iraq that, in the final analysis, will prove to be the greatest threat to American security interests at home and abroad by Islamic fundamentalists; a threat far greater than existed prior to that ill-conceived war. Your remarks call into question your capacity to govern the nation. You should be deeply ashamed of your remarks and offer an apology to your Democratic brothers and sisters before you continue on in your efforts to become the president of the United States. Your claim that the Democrats would cause more death and take longer to defeat terrorism is, quite clearly, the remark of a prideful and ambitious politico who will stop at nothing to further his campaign. POPSConservative Haters Expose Themselves Oh Boy! I almost didn't clip this because it was so over the top. But I started to read some of the comments and realized that these people, by and large, who commented were so close minded and unintelligible that they needed to be exposed for the bigots that they are. I couldn't believe the stupidity of their remarks. Most had absolutely nothing to say except remarks about Rosie's weight. How absolutely ignorant. I'm all for free speech and thankfully that also implies that I have a choice what I read. NewsBusters certainly will not be on my "Favorites List". Blah!!!!!

POPSThis is the government Bush praises as being democratic.
Where is the revulsion about this matter? We keep hearing how this nascent Iraqi government believes in Democracy, and yet, right before their eyes, a minority group is being murdered and they are in total denial. Why has the media been silent about this? Why has this question not been asked of the president during news conferences. Are gays and lesbians just not really important enough to be of concern to the president or the media? This president stands and defends this Iraq government knowing full well, that they are murdering people strictly based on their sexuality. Al Malaki is no better than the other murderers that are marauding the country and killing innocent civilians. Let's get the hell out of there and stop defending this government. If their democracy and freedom is important enough to them, they would be happy to see us go so they can make their own country work. Of not, at the very least they should renounce violence against ALL of its citizens.
