About me
Photographer. Formerly a print journalist. See the link below for my longwinded Google profile.
Why I use Clipmarks
First as a student, later as a journalist, I spent many years with a highlighter marker close at hand. Visually emphasizing the important points in documents helps me remember stuff, sort stuff, and think things through.

Clipmarks gives me the ability to interact with the web in a similar fashion. Awesome!

Copyright Laws Protect Critics, Persecute Fans (May 09)
TripodGirl
by TripodGirl  5-22-2009
An interesting analysis of the perverse nature of current copyright laws. If you're a fan who loves characters/fictional worlds so much that you want to make creative non-commercial use of them, you risk being sued for stealing someone's intellectual property. However, if you're a critic who does nothing but trash someone else's creative labour, you're legally protected.

Save Lives Today - Or Waste Money Doing Almost Nothing for Tomorrow's Problems? (May 09)
TripodGirl
by TripodGirl  5-20-2009    2
Money is always limited. If we spend billions on X, we can't also afford to do Y. It seems to me we should all have a little more faith in future generations, in human ingenuity. Google is only 10 years old. The World Wide Web is only 20. Not so long ago there was no email, no BlackBerry's, no GPSs. Which means that, a century from now, people will have tools we haven't even dreamed of to help them meet environmental & other challenges. For us to assume they'll be helpless bystanders seems pretty insulting.
