POPSIsraeli "Internet Warfare" Team: chat and twitter Not peculiar to Israel, of course. One wonders whether it is worth it since the sort of chattering 'politico' twits who bounce soundbites off each other seven days a week are fortunately hermetically sealed in their own collective fantasies.

POPSArchbishop Accuses BBC of Siding with Israel <<<The BBC's unrepentant stance has stirred up rebellion in the ranks of it own reporters and editors. One senior BBC news presenter told the Observer: "I've been talking to colleagues and everyone here is absolutely seething about this. The notion that the decision to ban the appeal will seem impartial to the public at large is quite absurd. "Most of us feel that the BBC's defence of its position is pathetic, and there's a feeling of real anger - made worse by the fact that contractually we are unable to speak out." Jon Snow, the journalist who presents Channel 4 news, said the BBC should have been prepared to accept the judgment of the aid experts of the DEC. "It is a ludicrous decision. That is what public service broadcasting is for. I think it was a decision founded on complete ignorance and I am absolutely amazed they have stuck to it.">>>

POPSJews Not Zionists I don't clip this as a call for the abolition of Israel, which I personally think is just as febrile and pathological as the right wing hatred of the native peoples of Palestine. I clip it merely as an indicative example of one Jewish voice: there are many, all different, and we are fortunate to have clippers who have recently represented dissent within Israel by Jews. Indirectly, too, the many viewpoints of Jews are reflected by a fully human spectrum of opinions among Palestinians, and suggest looking at the equally rarely heard proposals for a one state solution to the divisions maintained by western imerialism and their proxy minority Israeli chums.

POPSIsraeli Professor Criticizes "Zionist Colonial Project"--Israel a "Rogue State" The war is part of an aim to establish "Greater Israel". Consider the author before closing your ears. He unmasks the real scheme behind the previous Israeli "withdrawal" from Gaza, up to the context of the present war, and rehearses the controversy of the creation of the state of Israel itself in a manner the media never does. This is largely the Palestinian view from a Jewish and Israeli writer, which the media never acknowledges, and therefore is blameless of the typical charges of "bigotry" or "anti-semitism" leveled at all such critics. His conclusion: ... it has become a rogue state with "an utterly unscrupulous set of leaders". A rogue state habitually violates international law, possesses weapons of mass destruction and practises terrorism. No Clipmark can do this article justice, it must read in its entirety at the source. Powerful! (Hat tip to TN for locating the the source).

POPSGlorying in Slaughter: the righteous malignancy
<<<So at 11:30 on Saturday morning, according to both the Jerusalem Post and Ha'aretz, as well as the New York Times, 50 fighter jets and attack helicopters demolished some 40 to 50 sites in just about three minutes, maybe five. Message: do not fuck with the Jews. "Do not fuck with the Jews." And what of the several hundred Palestinian dead -- including numerous children -- and many hundreds more seriously wounded? Israeli intelligence reported 225 people dead, mostly Hamas military leaders with some functionaries, besides, and perhaps 400 wounded. The Palestinians announced 300 dead, probably as a reflex in order to begin their whining about disproportionate Israeli acts of war. And 600 wounded. Objections to the Israeli attack are just "whining." Those are the words of a psychopath. And what to do now? I am up to my gullet with this reflex criticism of Israel as going beyond proportionality in its responses to war waged against its population with the..

POPS"We have no words left" <<<In Europe and the Middle East, the gap between leaders and led could not be greater when it comes to Israel. Official complicity and support for Israel contrast with popular outrage at war crimes carried out against occupied people and refugees with impunity. With governments and international institutions failing to do their jobs, the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee - representing hundreds of organisations - has renewed its call on international civil society to intensify its support for the sanctions campaign modelled on the successful anti-apartheid movement. Now is the time to channel our raw emotions into a long-term effort to make sure we do not wake up to "another Gaza" ever again.>>> • Ali Abunimah is co-founder of The Electronic Intifada and author of One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse

POPS'Worse than apartheid' Nablus is closed off by six checkpoints. Until 2005, one of them was open. "The checkpoints are supposedly for security purposes, but anyone who wants to perpetrate an attack can pay NIS 10 for a taxi and travel by bypass roads, or walk through the hills. The real purpose is to make life hard for the inhabitants. The civilian population suffers," says Said Abu Hijla, a lecturer at Al-Najah University in the city. In the bus I get acquainted with my two neighbours: Andrew Feinstein, a son of Holocaust survivors who is married to a Muslim woman from Bangladesh and served six years as an MP for the ANC ; and Nathan Gefen, who has a male Muslim partner and was a member of the right-wing Betar movement in his youth. Gefen is active on the Committee against AIDS in his AIDS-ravaged country.

POPSWhy Israel fits in with the West
"It is possible that war is the only way out of the situation created by Zionism. I leave it to others to find cause for rejoicing in this. But if there is any chance of some day seeing a peaceful solution, it will not be achieved by telling the Arabs that it is their duty to applaud their conquerors because they are Europeans or are in the process of becoming Europeanized, because they are 'advanced,' because they are revolutionary or (almost) socialist and, even less, simply because they are Jews! The most that can be asked of the Arabs is that they resign themselves to a disagreeable situation, and that in resigning themselves they make the best of their resignation. It is not easy to get a conquered person to resign himself to defeat, and it is not made any easier by loudly proclaiming how right it was that he was soundly beaten. It is generally wiser to offer him compensation. And those who have not suffered from the fight can (and, I believe, even must) recommend forgiveness ...
