About me
Me? I'm a Texan!

I have two beautiful kids. My daughter is autistic and wonderful. My son is little, as you can see in the photo. My awesome husband is a soldier in the US Army and is deployed often.

I'm a freelance artist and full time mom. I love reading, writing and drawing.

I'm an atheist, a skeptic and a happy person.

Extraordinary evidence in Science
ayame28
by ayame28  4-14-2007    1
Apparently, some collagen was found in a T-Rex bone and it allowed scientists to get a protein sequence from it that shows Rex is probably related to birds. I like this comment because it does show something about the burden of proof and how science takes it very seriously. They're not always right, but they'll work hard to find the truth. Basically if a scientist claims something extraordinary, then they're going to give you the extraordinary proof. I think to do otherwise would make the scientist in question look really, really stupid. Cold fusion, anyone?

The Templeton Foundation has apparently spent a ton of money trying to prove that prayer has any measurable effect on the world.

if another theory was viable...
ayame28

Note the part: "...finding a better alternative to evolution would win them fame and fortune." That's what interested me about this clip. If there was another explanation, that would equal a huge Nobel Prize. No one's found a better explanation for how life changes. Evolution doesn't even state necessarily how life started. There are scientists who think Earth was seeded by a comet (panspermia). There was even a cool BBC special about just that on air recently. I just don't see why religious literalists need to see Evolution as a threat. It's a tool for understanding change in life. That's all. The whole article this is clipped from is great, by the way. :)

Answer to a question: What if you were wrong about god?
ayame28
by ayame28  3-29-2007    2
The whole question that this is the answer to: "By TTM: “What if you die and discover that there is a God? What if He at that point finally manifests Himself to you supernaturally? What if He says He longed for you to have faith in Him and to share a personal relationship with Him and to spend eternity with Him? Do you feel, given this new knowledge, you would be able to say that living your earthly life according to atheistic standards was satisfactory?”
