Some leading economists have predicted that, depending on how long troops remain in Iraq, the endeavor could reach several trillion dollars as a result of more "hidden" costs -- including recruiting expenses to replenish the ranks and the lifelong benefits the government pays to veterans." POPS'50,000 Iraqi refugees' forced into prostitution Zahra, an attractive girl with a bare midriff and tattoos, tells me she's 16. She has been working in this club since fleeing to Syria from Baghdad after the war. She doesn't like it, she says, "but what can we do? I hope things get better in Iraq, because I miss it. I want to go back, but I have to look after my sister". Zahra points to a thin, pubescent girl with long black hair, who seems to be dancing quite happily. Aged 13, Nadia started in the club two months ago.

POPSIraq's War Wounded: In their own words Once a leader in the Middle East, Iraq's health system is today under tremendous strain, itself a casualty of the war. Hospitals, especially in Baghdad, are overwhelmed in the wake of a multiple-casualty attack, and don't have enough medicines, surgical supplies, even electricity. Patients are often simply patched up, stabilized, and sent home, often only to face further complications. Worse, many of the country's highly trained doctors have fled or have been assassinated. And some people are afraid to go to hospitals in areas that are controlled by certain religious or political parties, or armed groups. Since August, 2006, MSF has been providing surgical care to Iraqi victims of violence, regardless of their ethnic or religious identities. Surgeries are performed in Amman, Jordan. MSF is also supporting several hospitals inside Iraq by providing essential medicines and medical supplies.

POPSThe Worst Strategic Blunder In Modern Times! This mess is unwinable militarily.....we all know that! Some of us know it better than others. I can understand people who are hoping for the best. Especially when they got some big time skin in the game........those poor souls who have already lost, or about to lose loved ones to the alter of politics, and a face saving, disconnected president. The only thing I'm hoping for is that the new congress is able to acquire some much needed backbone, and point us in a better direction. The end game is upon us......ala Vietman! This whole bloody mess was wrong from the get-go! Lies upon Lies....driven by a cadre of neoconservative screwballs who had no skin in the game!
