Floating Utopia and Ocean City Projects
    Aribeth
    by Aribeth  3-14-2008    3
So where did this all start? As with many present utopian ideals and building strategies a surprising number of philosophical ideas, building strategies and ecological approaches embodied in the aforementioned floating utopian concepts date back to the famous environmentalist, scientist, designer, philosopher and visionary Buckminster Fuller. In the 1960s he developed a design for something known as Triton City which was to be a floating place of residence for up to 5,000 inhabitants and designed to be resistant to tsunamis and other natural forces that floating cities might encounter on the water. Somewhat amazingly, these designs were approved by the Navy as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development in the United States. In fact, Baltimore even planned at one point to construct one of these and install it in Chesapeake Bay until governments changed and plans fell through.

Is The "Scientific Consensus" On Global Warming A Myth?
    merrie
    by merrie  6-9-2008    3
Their work is cited and acclaimed throughout the scientific community. No wonder Gore and his allies want to pretend they don't exist. This is the one book that PROVES the science is NOT settled. The scientists profiled are too eminent and their research too devastating to allow simplistic views of global warming--like Al Gore's--to survive. Al Gore says any scientist who disagrees with him on Global Warming is a kook, or a crook. Guess he never met these guys Dr. Edward Wegman demolishes the famous "hockey stick" graph that launched the global warming panic Prof. Hendrik Tennekes states "there exists no sound theoretical framework for climate predictability studies" used for global warming forecasts. Dr. Antonino Zichichi who discovered nuclear antimatter--calls global warming models "incoherent and invalid." Dr. Syun-Ichi Akasofu twice named one of the "1,000 Most Cited Scientists," says much "Arctic warming during the last half of the last century is due to natu

Laky’s text treatment really seems to declare once and for all that the best solutions might literally be right in our own backyards and communities, with materials and practices that simply need to be re-examined and better utilized. As the artist openly states, “Natural materials are very expressive…they also connect me to nature which is a deep love of mine.” According to her artist website, Laky considers herself to be an environmentalist, with her work often employing materials harvested from nature and/or agricultural sources with select recycled elements incorporated. “She is attracted to humble materials and simple, direct methods of hand construction…Laky has (also) been a strong advocate for the establishment of an environmental sustainability curriculum in design and art at UC Davis.”

Al Gore Is Bad For The Planet
    merrie
    by merrie  4-22-2008
Iain Murray's rollicking exposé of environmental blowhards who waste more energy, endanger more species, and actually kill more people, than the environmental villains they finger. Did you know that estrogen from birth control and"morning after" pills is causing male fish across America to develop female sex organs? Funny how "pro-choice" and "environmentalist" liberals never talk about that. Or how about this: the Live Earth concert to "save the planet" released more CO2 into the atmosphere than a fleet of 2,000 Humvees emit in a year? We hear a lot about AIDS in Africa, but the number one killer of children in much of Africa is malaria-and guess who was responsible for banning the pesticide that used to have malaria under control? Iain Murray, a sprightly conservative environmental analyst with a long record of skewering liberal hypocrisy, has dug up seven of the environmental catastrophes caused by the Left and exposed them in The Really Inconvenient Truths.

Indians most worried about global warming
    Wadard
    by Wadard  6-11-2007    1
While emerging economies like India and China are often accused of resisting the need to tackle climate change, a new survey by Australian environmentalist Jon Dee, published in the latest issue of New Scientist suggested that people of these two countries are more worried about climate change. The survey was conducted by Seattle-based research group Global Market Insite. It polled opinions from 14000 people in 14 countries to gather solid data on how people feel about climate change, Dee said.

:-( Those of us who have good drinking water take it for granted, while others have to choose between dying of thirst or arsenic poisoning. Sand filtration, if it works as well as Zougouri claims, sounds like a good alternative to closing the wells...a stop gap measure until new wells or technologies can be developed.

Poll: Most Britons Doubt Cause Of Climate Change
    merrie
    by merrie  6-22-2008    9
However Professor Bjorn Lomborg, author of The Skeptical Environmentalist, said politicians and campaigners were to blame for over-simplifying the problem by only publicising evidence to support the case. 'Things that we do know - like humans do cause climate change - are being put in doubt,' said Lomborg. 'If you're saying, "We're not going to tell you the whole truth, but we're going to ask you to pay up a lot of money," people are going to be unsure.' More than half of those polled did not have confidence in international or British political leaders to tackle climate change, but only just over a quarter think it's too late to stop it. Two thirds want the government to do more but nearly as many said they were cynical about government policies such as green taxes, which they see as 'stealth' taxes.

She vowed to go all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. “Without question, litigation challenging the Secretary's decision will be of immense significance to Alaska and the nation,” she said. “I would not be at all surprised if the case is ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. As governor, I believe that my responsibility requires full State participation beginning at the trial court and ending with the last appeal.” On Fox News, in an interview with Neil Cavuto she explained her reasoning. “We don`t believe that this speculation, again unprecedented, on computer modeling could forecast the effects of climate change, to the degree that leaves us in a comfortable position,” she said. “It’s just too far out into the future, this speculative modeling.”

A woman from Austin , who was a tree hugger and anti-hunter, purchased several acres of Hill Country land, near Lake Travis , Texas . There was a huge tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted to view the natural splendor of her land, so she climbed the tree. As she neared the top, she encountered a spotted owl. It attacked her! In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground. The ensuing fall incurred several splinters of wood in her crotch. In considerable pain, she hurried to the nearest doctor, 35 minutes away. She told him she was an environmentalist and anti-hunter and how she came to receive all of the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience. He then told her to go into the examining room and he would see if he could help. The impatient patient sat, and waited for three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, "What took you so long?" He smiled and said, "Well, I had to get permits f
