POPSbrown suger bacon biscuits: recipe
Increase oven temperature to 425 degrees F. Line another baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, and set aside. In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and black pepper. Add cold butter and use your hands to quickly break the butter into the flour until mixture resembles coarse meal. In another bowl, combine egg and buttermilk and beat lightly with a fork. Add to flour mixture all at once, stirring to incorporate. Once batter is nearly incorporated, add bacon and mix in. You may want to dump the shaggy biscuit mixture onto a lightly floured board to knead together a few times. Don’t overwork the dough and melt the butter, Just make sure it comes together. Roll or pat dough into a 1-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch rounds using a biscuit cutter or cut into 2×2-inch squares. Reshape and roll dough to create more biscuits with excess scraps. Place on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees F for 12-15 minutes. Serve

POPSchocolate pumpkin marble cake: recipe Spread pumpkin puree over two layers of paper towels and press two more layers on top. Let sit for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a large mixer bowl cream butter until light. Add both sugars in a steady stream and mix on medium for about 5 minutes. Add eggs, one at time, mixing well after each. Add in vanilla. Transfer half of the mixture into another large bowl (another mixer bowl would be helpful, but any large bowl will work). Set aside. Scape the pumpkin off of the paper towel and add it to the first bowl. Mix well. In a smaller bowl combine 1 3/4 cup flour, pumpkin pie spice, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt. Add half of the flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture and mix well. Mix in 1/3 cup buttermilk. Then add the remaining flour and mix until combined. Set aside. In the smaller bowl combine 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup cocoa, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt.

POPSwild rice dressing: recipe 4 Drain the rice when it is tender (most of the grains will have split by then) and add the rice to the sauté pan. Turn off the heat and add the sage, croutons, dried cranberries and walnuts. Sprinkle a little more salt over everything. Stir to combine. 5 Put the dressing into a large, oven-proof pot with a lid and dot with the remaining butter. Add the chicken stock, cover and bake for 45 minutes. If you want, take the cover off for the last 15 minutes to brown the top.

POPSBanana Bread: recipe In a medium-sized bowl combine the mashed bananas, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. With a rubber spatula or wooden spoon, lightly fold the wet ingredients (banana mixture) into the dry ingredients just until combined and the batter is thick and chunky. (The important thing is not to over mix the batter. You do not want it smooth. Over mixing the batter will yield tough, rubbery bread.) Scrape batter into prepared pan. Bake until bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 55 to 60 minutes. Place on a wire rack to cool and then remove the bread from the pan. Serve warm or at room temperature. This bread can be frozen. Makes 1 - 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf.

POPSChocolate Pumpkin cake recipe 3. While cakes are baking prepare the buttercream. Place butter, reserved 2 tablespoons pumpkin and cinnamon into stand or electric mixer. Mix on high until well combined. Slowly add the powdered sugar until thick and creamy. Slowly add the milk until buttercream is a nice consistency. Frost over cooled cakes, slice and serve. Makes 16 servings Note: This recipe can be used to make 24 cupcakes as well. Bake at 350 for about 15-20 minutes, until baked through. Note: This recipe can also be used to make two 9 inch cakes for layered cakes. I’d start the bake time at 30 minutes at 350 and check often from there

POPSCaramel Cake recipe Divide batter equally among prepared pans. Level batter in each pan by holding pan 3 or 4-inches above counter dropping it flat onto counter. Do this several times to release air bubbles and assure you of a more level cake. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. For the filling: While cake is baking, in a saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, and milk. Cook and stir over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Remove cake layers from oven and allow cake to remain in pans as you prepare to stack and fill. Remove first layer and invert onto cake plate. Pierce cake layer with a toothpick over entire surface. Spread 1/3 of filling mixture on cake layer. Top with second layer, repeat process. Top with last layer and repeat process again.

POPSPopulation control FTA: To use overpopulation as a ridiculous claim that women shouldn’t be having that many children and it needs legislating, really seems to be saying that certain women shouldn’t be having children, women who might use resources, women who might already live in a populated country.

POPSthe birth process should not become a shopping trip The author states that in order to protect a woman's right to a safe, legal abortion the US should not allow women to know the gender of her baby for non medical reasons. Honestly, I am not even sure where to start with this person's logic. A woman should have authority over her body, she should not be forced to give birth for any reason, trust women to make the right decision. BUT, sex selective abortions are wrong and will lead to loss of rights for the poor and victims of rape. This seems to be a sore spot in the pro-choice community. How can you prevent women from aborting for gender and ensure her rights to abort for all other reasons? We either trust women or we don't. We either believe a woman should have autonomy over her body or we don't. How can we demand a woman's right to abort a fetus with a missing arm, but deny her the right to abort a missing y chromosome?

POPSOn marriage I think the lie that the media sells about marriage is one of the most harmful lies out there. Do we have a 50% divorce rate because mating for life is not normal or possible? or is it because the perceptions of what marriage is have changed into something that is not normal or possible?

POPS163 million missing women FTA: And as women become more scarce, their value rises which one would think would mean that women would be treated better. But exactly opposite is true. Women have become commodities to be bought and sold. Parents all over Asia are guarding their girls against kidnappers who would sell them to rich families who want to guarantee a future bride for their son. Women are routinely kidnapped and dragged across boundary lines to be forced into the sex industry. Poor families, who could not afford sex selective procedures are selling their daughters to rich families who could. Some women are bought to be a wife to several men, usually brothers, a practice called polylandry. Sex selective abortion ensures that women are born only to poor families and then are treated as commodities.

POPSLemonade Cake Once the cakes are done, let cool for 10 minutes in the pans on a cooling rack. Invert and remove from the pans. Place the cake with the prettiest top right-side-up and the other cake upside down. Place the cooling rack over a rimmed cookie sheet for pouring the glaze. Poke holes in each of the cakes with a toothpick. Pour the glaze over. Let the cakes cool completely. Make the frosting. Cream the butter and cream cheese together until smooth. Beat in the vanilla, lemon juice and concentrate until combined. Add in the sugar, beating at low speed. Increase the speed and beat until fully combined and smooth. Once frosted, refrigerate 1 hour to set.

POPSFrench onion soup: recipe Let the mixture simmer for 30 minutes more, for all flavors to blend. Discard the bay leaf and ladle the soup into two individual oven-proof ramekins. I let the onions hang over the sides a bit because I like to show guests a bit of what’s inside. Plop a handful of croutons on top of each soup bowl. Sprinkle each with the grated cheese and broil for just about one minute, or until the cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown.

POPSHearty Chicken Stew: recipe # Let the mixture return to a simmer and you should notice the corn starch thickening the liquid within about 2 minutes. If your stew doesn’t thicken enough to your liking, add more cornstarch (dissolved in cold water- generally the ratio of cornstarch to water is 1:2). # Now that the mixture has thickened, stir in the leftover cooked, chopped chicken. Let the mixture cook for about 5 minutes for flavors to blend. # Serve with crusty bread or homemade biscuits.
