About me
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Excerpt from Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Why I use Clipmarks
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Excerpt from I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth

a solace in words
bignosemousie
by bignosemousie  9-2-2009    8
What comfort has reading brought you? What courage has a well-turned phrase stirred in you? Books are like steadfast friends: the words never change, yet I never tire of reading them. One of my favorite sounds on Earth is the gentle shushing of pages turning. What will the next page bring? comfort, joy, peace, sanity, conviction, courage, hope, relief, laughter? Exciting, isn't it?

Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom
bignosemousie
by bignosemousie  2-22-2009    1
From Q and A with the author (first clip link): Q: What message does Moses impart? Three values lessons can be gleaned from the book. Freedom is a God-given right. God is always with us. And we should always be free to dream. Harriet Tubman’s role in the freedom struggle can give readers a sense of their own potential and power. "Every great dream begins with a dreamer," said Tubman. "Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."

E-Sword Bible Software
jatfla
by jatfla  11-14-2008    2
This really is the best, FREE, software on the net. I love it. Most of the Bibles, commentaries, and dictionaries are FREE but some are offered for a small download fee. You really can't beat it if you are interested on having everything at your fingertips. I recommend the NAS, Holman, and NET Bible as add-ons and The Word Study dictionary. If you're a student of the Scriptures, I hope you'll check it out. They've just had an upgrade.

When it is over, I don't want to wonder if I have made of my life something particular, and real. I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened, or full of argument. I don't want to end up simply having visited this world. -Mary Oliver From New and Selected Poems

A new magazine. The site won't clip as I'd like it, so go check it out. It's a quarterly magazine "focusing on the daily interactions taking place at home." It seeks "to honestly tell and simply show the everyday beauties found in quiet and humble moments of our own homes and yards and with those whom we love most." And it's advertisement free!

Very interesting blog, Masbury. I really did enjoy it, even though I fall into the Calvinist camp. This statement of yours sounds profound and on the surface appealing. However, after noodling it, seems to be quite inappropriate as it pertains to sola fide, grace, and salvation. What does this mean?

Spell check is not the only problem. If you hear it wrong, it gets written wrong. You see it written wrong and it becomes right in your head. The cycle repeats until the incorrect becomes acceptable and our language perishes. Don't even ask me about "for all intensive purposes."

Eat what you know
bignosemousie
by bignosemousie  4-18-2007    2
I'm so excited about this book coming out next month. The author and her family decide to eat only local produce, dairy and meat for one year (with a few exceptions). She wanted a greater connection to her sustanence, as well as a way to cut down on fossil fuel consumption. I really look forward to teaching my daughter about this concept. Food isn't really made by magic by elves in a tree. Someone put their back into it. Someone worried about rainfall. Someone put their sweat, tears and love into each bite she eats. My parents have a garden every year, and this year she is old enough to really help. Doesn't a tomato taste better when you've grown it yourself? I certainly appreciate every lemon I manage to coax from my little tree, in a way I don't seem to care about storebought lemons.
