     Tired of spending too much money on bloated software? Here's 30 essential pieces of free (and open) software for Windows. I've yet to have a Word document that OpenOffice couldn't handle. Sure, it's missing some of those high end functions that I've never used, but for the (no) money it's a great deal. It's an excellent replacement for Microsoft Office for most home users.

     It drives me nuts when Windows rearranges the start menu each time I install a new program. This restores the alphabetical order.
