POPSThe ShotSpotter overeduc8ed wrote: Uhh -- what was with the quote about the officer who arrived on the scene and immediately killed a suspect who "attempted to flee"? Was that supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing? Aren't cops generally *not* supposed to shoot people in the back, especially when they are only "allegedly" armed and the only evidence is that they took off running? I understand that cops can get scared as hell too and appreciate the job they do for us, but the quote just seemed like a bad example. Or maybe it's just bad writing...

POPSConveluded Pope: Either Evil or Dillusional Sandro Tuxa, leader of a coalition of Indian tribes in Brazil's impoverished northeast, declared: "We repudiate the Pope's comments. To say the cultural decimation of our people represents a purification is offensive, and frankly, frightening" Murdering 89% of a population is ungodly. For the Pontiff to ignore that is also ungodly. Now consider what's frightening. "the precious treasure of the Catholic Church in Latin America, and must be protected, promoted and, when necessary, PURIFIED." What does he mean by purified? In light of the context, that sounds like a threat. Your thoughts and pops are welcome.

POPSMike Vick, Dog Fighting, and Deer Hunting It appears that government's hypocrisy has reared its ugly head again. Freedom of religion (slaves couldn't worship). Freedom of the press (no example needed). Now this. The fact is, either killing animals is wrong or it's not. Then, either torturing animals is wrong or it's not. You cannot say no dog fighting (BTW, people rarely punished for dog fighting but strangely, Vick was. Winning in court isn't all about the Benjamin's after all.) but allow the VP to hunt ducks. You cannot allow the torture of humans via "extraordinary renditions" in black sites but disallow the torture of pit bulls to be punishable by fine and imprisonment. Your comments fellow Clippers?

POPSFISK: "Even I question the 'truth' about 9/11"
....– whose melting point is supposed to be about 1,480C – would snap through at the same time? (They collapsed in 8.1 and 10 seconds.) What about the third tower – the so-called World Trade Centre Building 7 (or the Salmon Brothers Building) – which collapsed in 6.6 seconds in its own footprint at 5.20pm on 11 September? Why did it so neatly fall to the ground when no aircraft had hit it? The American National Institute of Standards and Technology was instructed to analyse the cause of the destruction of all three buildings. They have not yet reported on WTC 7. Two prominent American professors of mechanical engineering – very definitely not in the "raver" bracket – are now legally challenging the terms of reference of this final report on the grounds that it could be "fraudulent or deceptive". Journalistically, there were many odd things about 9/11. Initial reports of reporters that they heard "explosions" in the towers – which could well have been the beams cracking – are easy to

POPSFrom Gutter to Glamour BOB HERBERT "It took an extraordinary $10 million fund-raising effort by a retired advertising executive named Jack Connors, and an equally extraordinary construction effort by workerswho at times pitched tents and slept on the island to get the camp ready for the kids by the start of this summer."
