POPSThe Pope's take on Africa It's interesting that he appeals to both transcendental doctrine, and practical means. Unfortunately, there are some church teachings which aren't beneficial to people. For example, the article later talks about birth control, I think views on women in ministry as well as hierarchy can also conflict. Can we evaluate doctrine on whether it is always beneficial? The extreme case of not teaching original sin as harmful to children has been brought before the courts. But what is real and true should be beneficial it requires solutions to the problems we face. Ultimately it depends on how it works out in people's life. If true teachings eventually leads to peace and hope, then the harshness is worth it.

POPSWho's ur idol? ID, choose grace, worship Connect to last growth group training on worship. We read Psalm 146 which contrasted God with other places for trust. I like these pairs which flesh out, clarify, detail, what it means to worship, and how things can be alluring. Each growth group, in incorporating worship, can figure out which idols are relevant to their realm, and how the gospel of forgiveness speaks to them.
