POPSDan Patterson Contact Info on Social Media I'll be traveling through Africa, the Middle East, and Europe until the end of March, 2008 - for those who need it, here's my contact information. I'll have SOME web access (particularly in Paris, Switzerland, and Dubai) but should be able to check messages. Thanks!

POPSObama Mania Doc, from Supernova Earth, has written a fantastic essay on the creepy emotional reaction that Obama inspires.

POPSUN / Google Censor Journalist Matthew Lee I work with Matthew at the UN - every day we attend briefings, stakeouts and meetings together. Matthew is certainly a 'thorn' in the establishment's side. Matt is a great journalist, and de-listing his material is akin to censorship.

POPSSenate Votes to Expand Spy Powers Lost in the horse race noise is the story of the Senate yet again capitulating to the desires of the Bush administration. Wiretapping laws expanded, civil liberties and privacy shrinking, and Obama and Clinton didn't have the balls to vote. Great.

POPSTens of thousands flee Gaza for Egypt Allowing Palestinians into Egypt was a strategically smart and humane move by Egypt - seriously increases the image of Israel as regional bully. Though Israel does have a right to be safe, the blockade does not make them safe.

POPSCitigroup Loss Raises Anxiety Over Economy Read that first paragraph again: $9.83 Billion loss - in ONE quarter. I'm pretty sure it's now safe to use the 'R' word. Seriously, we all need to brace ourselves - gonna be a bumpy year.

POPSOperation Live Free or Die These people, in part, helped organize the Operation Live Free or Die rally. They're NOT dirty hippie protesters, but rather intelligent, articulate, former-tech employees. They know their issues and they know how to articulate them.

POPSChoose or Snooze Campaign Coverage Pipe I made a Pipe a while back that pulls in a ton of campaign and political news from a variety of both social and traditional media sources. It's a bit quirky, but this far the Pipe has spit out some GREAT campaign news - very up-to-the-second and very has culled some fantastic stories.

POPSThe Talk Radio News Service Today we launched the new iteration of the Talk Radio News Service website! As you know, I’m the Chief United Nations Correspondent for TRNS, as well as their social media consultant. We’ve been hard at work redesigning this new site for quite some time, and hope that you find it a useful place for disseminating news from Washington DC, the United Nations, and the Presidential Campaign Trail. There may still be a few bugs lurking, so as we continue to improve this space we’d love your feedback and comments. There’s a helpful little tutorial video over on the Help page. Thanks!

POPSMcCain Begins New Hampshire Blitz I suspect that McCain is going to wipe the floor with Romney - at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if McCain took the nomination. He has the experience card, strong on war but anti torture, and while he may not be the evangelical's first choice, they will vote for him before Romney.

POPSCandidate Schedules A really engaging NYT map of the presidential candidates campaign stops in a real-time animation.

POPSLakota Nation Seced From US This story has been under reported but is of great importance to Federalists and activists. Having spent six years living in Lakota country, the weight of this story is immense. It's my hope that that Lakota are successful and they have all the support of Creepy Sleepy.

POPSSlate Campaign Junkie Slate runs the Campaign Junkie ever election cycle. Their writing is substantive and informative, but never lacking in humor or wit. I listen to the Slate podcast right after NPR's 7 am news and the NYT front page - it's essential. Want to be more informed but not bored to death during this election? Subscribe to Slate.

POPSAl Qaeda Wants Videos a la YouTube Debate Wow. I almost feel as though Creepy Sleepy should submit a video entry. I'm fairly certain that some will find this completely offensive, but it's an interesting opportunity to address the 'enemy' by using social media. How very odd. What questions should Creepy Sleepy ask Al Qaeda? What would you ask?

POPSPolitical Base Another interesting, slick use of social media to cover the 2008 presidential campaign - nice interface, poll information, money data - this campaign will be very 2.0verloaded.

POPSYahoo Political Dashboard The dashboard of the Yahoo! Election 08 site is an aesthetically pleasing, brief overview of poll leaders, money spent, and current leaders. It's a bit like the Billboard Top 10 for the campaign.

POPSYahoo! Election 08 This site might succeed because it's a Yahoo! site. Thought I'm always skeptical when Y! announces a new product, This site presents a ton of campaign information efficiently. Yahoo! Election 08 is uses social media tools to target a non-social media, mainstream audience. My interest, primary, is how they will exercise editorial control, and if they can build a significant audience and voice.

POPSGuatemalan Adventures My sister, Nancy, will be returning to the United States from a six-month stay in Guatemala. She has been living in Guatemala City, working on her MA, and studying conservation and environmental communication. Her blog, Guatemalan Adventures, is a fantastic window in to the life of an American semi-expat living in Central America.
