Conflict in Iran: Symbiosis between Bush and Ahmadinejad
    ouyangwulong
    by ouyangwulong  1-9-2008    22
I've stitched together three very interesting articles over the last week, which become much more interesting when you read them in sequence. Look carefully at what is happening. If there is anything that lays bare the role of the Bush Administration's jingoistic belligerence in the Middle East, it is the recent conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. With the international pressure off Ahmadinejad, he starts taking heat in Iran for the shortcomings of his leadership. Without fear, his belligerent and isolationist politics lose their appeal. In order to defend his world view, and preserve the source of his power, he needs America as an enemy... So some Iranian boats play around with one of our convoys, Bush comes out with some insane saber-rattling press conference, and, Ahmadinejad is back in business, courtesy of the Bush administration. If you desire war, you need an enemy. If you need an enemy, you desire war. Bush needs Ahmadinejad. Just like Ahmadinejad needs Bush.

    After A Son's Death
    debbyski
    by debbyski  12-31-2007    1
"From afar, Americans have wondered at their bond or questioned their values, cheered them on or condemned them. Some people assumed they were in denial, others accused them of an ambition that knew no bounds. But to the Edwardses, their decision simply showed a sense of purpose and a lesson learned a decade ago from crushing pain: If you can’t control life, you can at least embrace it more urgently." I simply CANNOT fathom a death of a child, much less run a political campaign while suffering from cancer. Just from looking at her in pictures, I can tell Elizabeth is NOT a well woman. Say what you want about their politics, the Edward's have more strength than I could must up in a lifetime. And I admire them for that.

In Memoriam to a soldier, not unknown
    ouyangwulong
    by ouyangwulong  12-28-2007    1
This is the conclusion of Hitchen's essay on the death of Mark Daily, a young man who was inspired by Hitchens to join the army, and gave his life in Mosul, Iraq. The essay is a very interesting and introspective piece, and was one of David Brooks' picks for best essays of the year. It is well worth reading to contemplate the reality of the war, separate from the propaganda and politics. A very refreshing change.

Click on the link and view the embedded video to gain an awareness of the total wackiness of these people. Make no mistake about it, these people are intent on making this a Christian Nation. And if your "brand" of Christianity doesn't conform with what they deem appropriate you're as much on the outside as any non-believer. Maybe those depicted in the video are not of the Fred Phelps ilk, they are much more of a danger because of their numbers and organizational influence in politics. You've been warned!

Ari Fleischer and his crew are dripping with panic
    zasel
    by zasel  8-25-2007    5
Fleischer and his group Freedom's Watch are not only using the overworked and phony connection between the Iraq war and the 9/11 attacks, but they are aiming at their own Republicans who are fleeing the president's Iraq strategy. They are so panicked that Bush is going to be forced into a corner in September, that they are actually trying to intimidate members of their own party with the same bullshit rhetoric and advertising they used to manipulate and scare voters in the past two elections. Ari and his group should be totally ashamed to exploit our wounded and killed vets in such a crass political game.

Zogby Survey Uncovers American Bias, Hypocrisy
    Kore7
    by Kore7  7-24-2007    2
Detailed results worth viewing at source. Pollster John Zogby said, “Over my years of polling, I’ve learned that Americans tend to offer socially acceptable responses when questioned on their own views about race and prejudice. That’s why in this poll we predominantly asked people about “most Americans’” views on race and prejudice. We believe this provides a far more accurate window into how people really think about these issues. Americans are more forthcoming when discussing the problem in the context of their neighbors’ lives than in the context of their own lives.”

This is my blog. This is who I am. In Vietnam I was wounded three times. Almost lost my life twice. What I saw in Vietnam mirrors what I see now. The only difference was we were able to get out of Nam. I don't see us getting out of this situation. Not with the warmongers that we have stealing this country for themselves. The truth is obvious to people with common sense. I just don't see much of that in this country.

Rupert Murdoch Loves The Communist Chinese Government
    ouyangwulong
    by ouyangwulong  6-26-2007    3
Does politics really make strange bedfellows? Is it so odd that Murdoch should support another corrupt, brutal and authoritarian goverment? We should read this and ask ourselves: what is it that Rupert Murdoch and his ilk really believe in? Are they really conservatives or simply autocrats mascarading behind a "small government" agenda? What is meant by "small" anyway? From one angle, the smallest government possible is a single dictator, while the largest government possible is a democracy where everyone holds equal share in the governance of their society.

    The Danger of Cognitive Blinkers
    Kore7
    by Kore7  6-24-2007    3
From Steven Pinker's preface to What Is Your Dangerous Idea?: Today's Leading Thinkers on the Unthinkable . In this regard, it's disconcerting to see the two institutions that ought to have the greatest stake in ascertaining the truth — academia and government — often blinkered by morally tinged ideologies.
