POPSMcCain - Another Repub Panderer Just like the majority of his republican collegues, McCain just doesn't get it (though in all fairness, too many Dems also jump on this particular wagon). BTW, I'm still waiting for anyone to explain how this will "ruin" marriage. Any takers?

POPSPenguin Tale Tops Lists Of Challenged Books Why does SEX bother the same people who seems so at ease with KILLING people? What is going on here??? Sex between two consenting adults who care deeply for each other is a beautiful, wonderful, and awesome thing. And sexual orientation is fixed and CANNOT be changed through prayer or counseling, and it's NOT a matter of choice. Why do some people want to interpret the question of immorality with reference to themselves as far as sexual orientation is concerned?

POPSThings Americans don't like to talk about Read the whole article, it is illuminating to say the least. I thought this passage said it best: " If you listen to a lot of conservatives, they'll tell you that the difference between them and us is that conservatives love America and liberals hate America.... They don't get it. We love America just as much as they do. But in a different Way. You see, they love America the way a 4-year-old loves her Mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad, and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world."

POPSTHIS is McCain's "Spiritual Advisor?" "Parsley claims that Islam is an "anti-Christ religion" predicated on "deception." The Muslim prophet Muhammad, he writes, "received revelations from demons and not from the true God. And he emphasizes this point: "Allah was a demon spirit." Parsley does not differentiate between violent Islamic extremists and other followers of the religion" Parsley, who refers to himself as a "Christocrat," is no stranger to controversy. In 2007, the grassroots organization he founded, the Center for Moral Clarity, called for prosecuting people who commit adultery. In January, he compared Planned Parenthood to Nazis. In the past Parsley's church has been accused of engaging in pro-Republican partisan activities in violation of its tax-exempt status."

POPSThe Ascendancy of Barack Obama in Small Town America Why is "Small Town" so much like "Small Minded". For all of their old time religion, they sure don't know how to walk the walk when it comes to the most important parts of the bible. What's the matter with Kansas anyway! Or any other small town or small town paper that deals out this kind of stuff! I hope to hell this crap will lead directly to an Obama victory!

POPSGod isn't the problem, it's the followers that kill me! Ross Douthat raises a very valid criticism of Christopher Htichens' book God is Not Great. Most people attacking religion in books are going after God. I think this is a waste of time, normally promoted by personal grudges and emotional baggage. As a general rule, scientists should never try to prove a negative statement. On the other hand, if Hitchens hasn't answered Douthat's question, allow me to offer my ten cents in the following response:

POPSChurch Can Be A Lonely Place "For me, throwing myself into the religious machine meant starting to pay attention to being real and to paying attention to those who seem kind of disconnected in my spiritual community. Thankfully I have found a church family that is intent on keeping it real to the point that my religious bones get rattled on a fairly regular basis. I did not know how tight the grip of religion had on me until I stepped out and got into a place where being weak is embraced by the teachers and leaders at The Bridge and in everyone else. It is very freeing to be weak and not feel like I am stuck in the dug-out anymore. The whole team is in the dug-out with me. Let's start a revolution of honesty that just might lead to a reformation of church and community."

POPSBible turned into a club This is so true! It is the 21st Century and Biblical scholars cannot find any direct references to "homosexuality" in the Bible. The term was introduced into the Bible in the 19th Century and is incorrect!

POPSA Halloween Scare "Those who write and forward the e-mails of intolerance don’t understand, and probably never will, that while some Muslim extremists were at the heart of some terrorist plots, they don’t represent Islam or any other religion. If we believe that the few Muslim terrorists represent the entire religion, we must then go to the absurdity of believing that we should boycott all Christmas stamps because some Christian extremists destroyed the federal building in Oklahoma City and murdered 178 and wounded more than 800."

POPSI'm Going To Hell "I sinned by using a credit card (taking on debts, per Romans 13:8), not giving thanks after -- not before -- my meal (Deuteronomy 8:10), telling the waitress that "I'll have the burger" without adding "God willing" (James 4:13-15) and "cursing the ruler of thy people," George Bush (Exodus 22:28). The Republicans should focus more on that Scripture instead of putting so much emphasis on Leviticus and sodomy."

POPSGod vs the Bible There is far to much knowledge at this site to do more than clip a few points that will be made. There is a lot of great information to be found here. As I've said before, no one can prove or disprove "a god" or "a creator", but we have ample evidence to show that the bible god is complete fiction.

POPSI will fight back! The Brando Mayfield's story From the article: "Almost the only vaguely exotic thing about Brandon Mayfield is his religion: He is a Muslim convert and belongs to a local mosque. But like Alexis de Tocqueville, the 19th-century French writer whom he likes to quote and who helped define the American spirit, Mayfield worries that in a democratic system, the tendency of government will be to augment its power at the expense of minorities. “I’m suspicious of government anyway,” he said in an interview last week. And it's not hard to conclude that Mayfield's one deviation from the norm, the thing that makes him a minority, explains why, for a few weeks in 2004, he was one of the most famous people in the world." This is what happens when in the name of security, the goverment is given free reign.

POPSFundamentalism & Government: There, but for the Grace of the Constitution, Go I
It's interesting how much agendas of Christian fundamentalists can overlap with other religious fundamentalists. Obviously, they will never be able to get a completely straight society. Laws and persecution don't make homosexuals go away. Is a society of convenient denial what these religions truly want? In that case they aren't saving souls, they are just insulating themselves from diversity. What is also quite interesting is that the article goes on to talk about Iran's encouragement of homosexuals to undergo sex changes. (Never mind that gender disphoria isn't necessarily linked with homosexuality...) I see in this the same agenda at work as when American Christians talk about "curing" homosexuality. But the BIG question is: if we let the Christian fundamentalists run the country like they want to, would they do things any differently than what we are seeing in Iran? I haven't seen anything to suggest they would.
