POPSA quiet voice for gay marriage Many of these former spouses -- from those who still feel raw resentment toward their exes to those who have reached a mutual understanding -- see the legalization of same-sex marriage as a step toward protecting not only homosexuals but also heterosexuals. If homosexuality was more accepted, they say, they might have been spared doomed marriages followed by years of self-doubt. "It's like you hit a brick wall when they come out," Brooks said. "You think everything is fine and then, boom!" Carolyn Sega Lowengart calls it "retroactive humiliation." It's that embarrassment that washes over her when she looks back at photographs or is struck by a memory and wonders what, if anything, from that time was real. Did he ever love her?

POPSInside the Mind of a Sociopath
Imagine - if you can - not having a conscience, none at all, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter what you do, no limiting sense of concern of the well-being of strangers, friends, or even family members. Imagine no struggles with shame, not a single one in your whole life, no matter what kind of selfish, lazy, harmful, or immoral action you had taken. And pretend that the concept of responsibility is unknown to you, except as a burden others seem to accept without question, like gullible fools. Now add to this strange fantasy the ability to conceal from other people that your psychological makeup is radically different from theirs. Since everyone simply assumes that conscience is universal among human beings, hiding the fact that you are conscience-free is nearly effortless. You are not held back from any of your desires by guilt or shame, and you are never confronted by others for your cold-bloodedness. The ice water in your veins is so bizarre, so completely outside of th

POPSHow many friends are you allowed to have?
Me and My Facebook I was introduced to Mark Morford during the nightmare of the Bush/Cheney or is it the Cheney/Bush administration’s HELLISH 8 year reign. His articles with all its sarcastic truthisms helped me survive during those dark days. After the 2004 horrendous election when the unthinkable of all unthinkables happened and the lunatics occupying our highest house of authority were given 4 more years to wreck havoc. When Bush/Cheney and their minions, smirked at the cameras, I was beside myself in despair. Then Mark Morford wrote an article for New Year’s 2005 and suggested how to survive the gloom of the following years. Amongst other suggestions he said ‘WHY NOT START A BLOG’. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2005/01/05/notes010505.DTL LIGHTBULBS lit up for me, http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com/2005/01/its-not-easy-being-blue.html I’ve been blogging ever since. Thanks Mark for that & thanks for this delightful article about facebook. thinkingblue.blogspot.co

POPSThe "What The Hell Is This Shit Helmet Award" goes to... Tanyamm! As the current holder of the much coveted Helmet Award, I think the time has come to pass it on. I'd like to give it to Tanyamm, who every day makes us all smile with her fabulous LOLcat clips and is always so polite, sweet, funny and just an all 'round great gal, who I am proud to call a fellow clipper. It was also she, who suggested we should honour each other, so no one could be more deserving of this very, very, very prestigious award. *drumroll* "THE HELMET AWARD" *applause applause applause* Congratulations, Tanyamm!! The Helmet Award is now yours and you're free to pass it on to whomever you choose. Wear it with pride. .:D

POPSHeterosexual Ivy League Professor Kills Wife Since people are entertaining the idea that we should ban gay adoption because an allegedly gay man is accused of molesting his adopted son, I think it is only fair that we ask, in light of this incident, if we should ban marriages involving straight men, economists, or Ivy League professors.

POPSSnowball The Dancing Cockatoo (Scary) This cockatoo is something else. He dances to the rhythm of the beat like any well coordinated human being with the talent of dance. Watching this bird get down makes you wonder what is going on in that tiny little brain of his. There definitely is someone home. POPSCompare Sotomayor with Bush 1's Clarence Thomas University of Utah dropout Karl Rove opines that Sotomayer - the summa cum laude Princeton grad - might be a little light for his taste. But George the First nominated Clarence Thomas, who remains, to the right, "a reassuring beacon of black inferiority."

POPSBitterness as Mental Illness? More: "Embittered people are typically good people who have worked hard at something important, such as a job, relationship or activity, Linden says. When something unexpectedly awful happens -- they don't get the promotion, their spouse files for divorce or they fail to make the Olympic team -- a profound sense of injustice overtakes them. Instead of dealing with the loss with the help of family and friends, they cannot let go of the feeling of being victimized. Almost immediately after the traumatic event, they become angry, pessimistic, aggressive, hopeless haters. Linden suggests that people once known as loving, normal individuals who suddenly snap and kill their family and themselves may have post-traumatic embitterment syndrome. That's reason enough for researchers to study how to treat the destructive emotion of bitterness."
