Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. POPSGod isn't the problem, it's the followers that kill me! Ross Douthat raises a very valid criticism of Christopher Htichens' book God is Not Great. Most people attacking religion in books are going after God. I think this is a waste of time, normally promoted by personal grudges and emotional baggage. As a general rule, scientists should never try to prove a negative statement. On the other hand, if Hitchens hasn't answered Douthat's question, allow me to offer my ten cents in the following response:

POPSChurch Can Be A Lonely Place "For me, throwing myself into the religious machine meant starting to pay attention to being real and to paying attention to those who seem kind of disconnected in my spiritual community. Thankfully I have found a church family that is intent on keeping it real to the point that my religious bones get rattled on a fairly regular basis. I did not know how tight the grip of religion had on me until I stepped out and got into a place where being weak is embraced by the teachers and leaders at The Bridge and in everyone else. It is very freeing to be weak and not feel like I am stuck in the dug-out anymore. The whole team is in the dug-out with me. If we believe that the few Muslim terrorists represent the entire religion, we must then go to the absurdity of believing that we should boycott all Christmas stamps because some Christian extremists destroyed the federal building in Oklahoma City and murdered 178 and wounded more than 800."
