Disturbing story. A schizophrenic woman in a wheelchair calls 911 because she believes she's in danger. When cops arrive, she's swinging a hammer and a knife around. They tase her ten times in two minutes, and she dies within an hour.

Researchers ironically note that it is often just as difficult to know whether or not someone is telling the truth when they plead against themselves as when they plead for themselves. Dr S M Kassin and two colleagues from the Department of Psychology at Williams College in Massachusetts report in the April, 2005 Law and Human Behaviour that when college students and police investigators judged 10 prison inmates confessing to crimes (half the confessions were true, half were false as they were concocted for the study), the students were more accurate than the police in determining who told the truth. -More than 50 people confessed to having committed the famous and still unsolved Black Dahlia murder in Los Angeles in 1947. -At least six people have confessed to being the Zodiac Killer. -At last count, 20 individuals have confessed to the 1996 murder of child beauty queen Jon Benet Ramsey.

    How to Get Well
    abailart
    by abailart  5-30-2008    3
<<<Once you have shifted your experience, your feelings will also shift. Once your feelings have shifted, you'll be able to get rid of the medication. Regrettably, in this culture of victimhood, we are all to willing to abdicate responsibility for ourselves and look elsewhere for solutions that are often better addressed through introspection and self-sufficiency. As we choose to take responsibility for ourselves by virtue of our actions, we undertake to reinvent or change our lives and experience. Should we fail in this, we will continue to be a slave to our neuroses.>>>

Look Closely, Doctor: See the Camera?
    einbar

Psychiatrists say that other movies whose characters are living in a unreal world or being watched by malevolent forces, including “The Matrix,” “Edtv” and even the film based on George Orwell’s “1984,” have come up in conversations with psychotic patients. But the premise of “The Truman Show” (“What if you were watched every moment of your life?” according to a promotional blurb) is strikingly similar to what patients describe as their own experiences. Reinforcing their beliefs is the fact that in the movie, Truman is right about being watched and recorded at all times. Every other character is part of the conspiracy.
