Google acquires 5% of AOL...and the winner is Google
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  12-17-2005
I agree with Fred that the big winner out of all this is Google. The $1billion they gave up means nothing to them and they locked in themselves while locking out miscrosoft. Not so bad for AOL either.

Interesting analysis by John Battelle of some of the possibilities of AOL partnering/being acquired by Google, Yahoo, MSFT...

John Battelle on Google becoming omni-powerful
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  11-30-2005
A very interesting comparrison (and perhaps prediction) by Battelle that Google's perception may become a major liability for them. From the conversations i've had with people about Google, i'd say the two most common words used to describe them are "impressive" and "scary".

Could Diller out-fox the search engines?
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  10-18-2005    2
I'm looking forward to seeing how Ask finds new ways to approach search. Clearly, there are many things that could be done to make the user experience better. I wouldn't put it past Diller to figure out a way to become a serious player. The parallels to the days of CBS, NBC and ABC are interesting to say the least.
