Clipmarks now available for Firefox 3
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  6-18-2008    14
Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that we released a new version of clipmarks (version 3.5) that supports the just-released Firefox3. We made some real nice improvements to the orange lines so they should more accurately outline elements on the page to clip. If you don't have the latest version of clipmarks installed, you can get it here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1407. There's a review section on that page, so if you have anything nice to say, don't hesitate :) FYI...we're getting loads of new clippers today, so if you get a chance, check out the newest clips section and welcome some new users with some pops and comments.

Is Web 3.0 all about aggregation? Clipmarks is!
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  4-15-2008    4
Now here's something we know a thing or two about :). The thing they don't realize is that the true power is in enabling everyone to aggregate and filter the news and information for each other. It's not something that the major media companies need to do for us...we're doing it already! But then again, we all know that already don't we ;)

    Some updates to Clipmarks
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  4-12-2008    28
We've got a lot of great projects in the pipeline that we'll be rolling out over the next few weeks and months. We introduced some of these changes this week. If you click the source URL in this clip you'll see the blog post that outlines some of them. In addition to some new features, our work will primarily focus on accomplishing 3 things: (i) make the user interface of the site more intuitive and user friendly; (ii) strengthen the social aspects of the site (iii) make the site much faster and more reliable

A new place to play on Clipmarks.com
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  12-21-2007    27
This is just step 1 of a more elaborate Dashboard concept we'll be rolling out. The first version, available for people with a My Clippers list, can be accessed from the My Clippers option in both the ClipCast View and Classic View buttons in the header. It's raw and new and will be further developed. But it's also fun so we wanted to make it live for everyone to enjoy. So, enjoy!

    Some more changes for Clipmarks
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  12-20-2007    31
So, last week we went live with Clipmarks 3.0; a HUGE set of new features, functionality and user interface changes. This was definitely the most challenging time we ever experienced, as it literally felt like there were a million pieces to the assemble. Overall, I feel really good about how everything went. That said, there were a few things I wish we handled better. Tonight, we’re introducing the first in a series of updates aimed at improving upon the initial release of V3.0. These are based in large part on amazing feedback we received from our users. Thank you to everyone for giving us your feedback and caring so much about Clipmarks. We’ve got a lot more coming… Clip on!

The Spread of Ideologies: ClipCast v. The Rise of Bengali Islam
    ouyangwulong
    by ouyangwulong  12-17-2007    3
Although I've always enjoyed using clipmarks as a tool to research social trends and ideologies, with Clipcast, Clipmarks is rapidly becoming a subject worthy of such research itself. Consider this: The effect of making Clipmarks (and it's community of ardent followers) mobile, and capable of organizing in more than one internet context is remarkably similar to the way in which Islam spread over much of South and South Eastern Asia. For those who are interested, I heartily suggest reading Richard Eaton's "The Rise of Islam on the Bengal Frontier." I've clipped its thesis here. It is one of the most interesting and insightfully approaches to understanding the interaction between social and ideological groups. It goes well beyond the coarse but popular theories of war and mercantilism in explaining the reason for Islamic success in a part of the world that America has failed miserably at influencing.

I've done a lot of writing about my perspective on ClipCast, but i just read some really insightful comments by ouyangwulong that said it better than i have been able to. Wanted to share them with everyone by clipping them. Thank you ouyangwulong. Not just for having such a positive perspective on it, but for truly tapping into and expressing the essence of what it's all about. It was truly a great feeling to read your comments. By the way, i'm eric goldstein on facebook. Would love to see the "other side" of your clips...friend me if you like :)

    Clipmarks app for Facebook
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  12-12-2007    13
So, one of the highlights of Clipmarks 3.0 is that your clips can now live in 2 (or more) places at once. By adding the Clipmarks app for Facebook, you'll easily be able to share your clips with your friends on Facebook, and see what they're clipping. Our goal is give you the option of combining the best of both words. With great ease and simplicity, you can choose to share your experience with the clipmarks community and your Facebook friends. You can click the source link of this clip to add the app.

    Is Forbes acquiring Clipmarks?
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  8-7-2007    48
VentureBeat just ran a story stating that Forbes has acquired Clipmarks. I wanted to quickly fill everyone in on what's going on. First, this article is a bit premature. We have not been acquired by Forbes. However, for the past few months we have been meeting with people at all levels of Forbes and the excitement and support they have shown for what we're creating has been very meaningful to us. As many of you have probably seen already, a number of their writers are already clipping and our technology has been integrated on forbes.com. For quite a while, we have been in talks with various parties about helping to financially support clipmarks. However, we hadn't yet found the right "partner" to help us complete this journey. A partner who fully understands our vision for making news and information more portable and interactive than ever before. Therefore, we just kept looking. Continued...

I just read this description of clipmarks by {{pokkets}} and literally got the chills. I believe one of the odd things about clipmarks is that it is very misunderstood by the general web population. Unfortunately, I think that is mostly a product of me being unable to properly explain it. So, when i see a description that so totally nails it, i get such a rush of excitement. Thanks {{pokkets}}!

    by egoldstein  5-24-2007    69
Just an fyi...in a few hours, we'll be uploading a fairly big set of changes to the clipmrks site aimed primarily at achieving two things. The first is making the site easier and more intuitive to navigate (get anywhere from anywhere in less clicks). The second is a much greater ability to learn about and connect with other clippers on the site. This will be a continuing driving force behind much of our development in June. The first stages will be introduced tonight. Hope you enjoy...

We were talking recently about how much we learn each day from reading clips on the site. I won't speak for anyone else, but i definitely have learned more from the clips that you all have posted than i did in high school, college and law school combined. Sad, but true. So, Skiff set out to create a fun podcast that highlights some of the interesting clips we find each day. It also gives us an opportunity to weigh in on them. Now you can sit back and listen to highlights from clipmarks on the clipiversity podcast...and don't worry, there will be no pop quizzes...get it, pop ;)

This is from faguogene's "Why I use Clipmarks" I would love to better understand his point of view. I have always felt that clipmarks could help people better understand each other and know more about the world. I'm wondering if this is what faguogene has in mind. We definitely need to build intra-site messaging on the site so that questions like this could be asked directly. For now, i wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone else had opinions on it.
