POPSand China is Worse than this? What a perversion of justice. And all for ONE trial with a 9 month sentence so far. Out of nearly 700 POWs there may be only 80 cases after all the torture that they will even bring to their kangaroo court show trail. What a system. What an advert for American 'democracy'. Were the Nazis as unjust as this never mind China. I know one thing for absolute certainty; one country is moving forward while the other is racing backwards. Most countries make at least a pretence at dispensing justice to its foes while Bush appears to intend to deliberately offend normal basic standards and to goad even more terrorism to justify his misnomer 'War on Terror'.

POPSHow about a Blackwater IPO? Um, when did we the U.S.begin outsourcing its military needs? I guess you don't need a draft when you can hire an army. Seems like you don't really need to have accountability either. Maybe there should be a Blackwater IPO on Wall Street. Then we could really show off the benefits of war and capitalism.

POPSFishermen Don't Know the Difference Between Copper and Fiber Optic This is actually a big problem everywhere. Thiefs are going to construction sites to raid copper. Air conditioning units are being taken. Locally, AT&T had to replace a big chunk of phone cable they left exposed overnight. People are getting electocuted trying to steel live wires. All kinds of mayhem is occurring due to the high price of copper.

POPSHow Did Soviet-Style Torture Become ‘Interrogation’? A Senate investigation is underway, but many of the details are surfacing already. His question is only underscored by a 1956 article, “Communist Interrogation,” in The Annals of Neurology and Psychiatry, recently turned up by the Intelligence Science Board, which advises the spy agencies.... he article shows that methods embraced after 2001 were once considered torture that would produce false information.

POPSBETRAYED I am sickened by those elected officials who ignore their constituents. Especially Clinton & Obama who cast their "nay" votes by the time it made no difference.

POPSJFK, 1963, on peace JFK's commencement address at American University in 1963, after the Cuban missile crisis. In it he remarks on Soviet propaganda claims that the U.S. is planning a "preventative war" -- which he describes as outlandish -- and declares, "The United States, as the world knows, will never start a war."

POPSCheney takes denial to a whole new level Wow...it is so scary to get a glimpse into how little the Bush administration is in touch with reality...and also the extent to which they do not care about rules or what anyone else thinks.

POPSAn ugly day in Iraq I sure hope that sending more troops to Iraq improves this situation. Just doesn't seem like any progress is being made...yet many are dying along the way.

POPSUK want to drop "War on Terror" term I know!! Let's call it something more appropriate like "War on Liberty" or "War for World Domination"... Naaaa, maybe we should leave the renaming up to the "Coalition of the Drilling".

POPSIraqi prime minister takes a slap at Bush This must be more of that negative propaganda coming out of iraq. We're totally winning this war. It's obvious. No, really, it's true. This is just the media portraying things in a bad light. I promise you, Bush will explain it all later today.

POPSTORTURE - that's what it is! Makes me sick to think we are now using the very torture techniques we learned from North Korea, the Soviet Union and other Cold War enemies. This behavior should never be justified or advocated by any civilized society...and the politicians who are endorsing and/or acquiesing to pressue to allow should be ashamed of themselves. I found this article via reddit.com

POPS"Big Talk, Little Will" - Thomas Friedman (NY Times) August 16, 2006. Friedman asking the right questions again. Here we are in the biggest struggle of our lives and we are funding both sides — the U.S. military with our tax dollars and the radical Islamists and the governments and charities that support them with our gasoline purchases

POPSDead with Ned This move was so stupid even the liberals at Slate are starting to figure it out. Fortunately for republicans, I do not think think the logic will set in.

POPSAnti-War protest in NYC What i am most afraid of is that horrible communication and terrible execution by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc. have now put us in a position where we can't make the necessary moves we need to against countries like Iran. This just might go down as a classis example of "careful what you wish for, you just might get it." Bush wanted his war with Hussein. He got it. Now we're paying for it...and i suspect we will be for a very long time.

POPSA question about Saddam's trial... What is the point of this trial? Once you invade a country and capture its leader, doesn't a trial seem a little after-the fact? What would happen if he's found innocent? Just want to make it very clear that this question has nothing to do with my opinion of the war in iraq or saddam (i hope he fries). i just honestly want to understand the point of a trial at this point.

POPSMark Pincus on the war and how he sees things Regardless of whether you agree with Mark or not, his posts about the war, the Bush administration and politics are passionate and sincere. Hopefully he'll throw his hat in the ring and run for something. Sure would stir the pot.

POPSImpeachment? This whole spy thing reminds me of Colonel Jessup in A Few Good Men..."Did you order the code red?" "You're god damn right i did"
