POPSOne person's junk; another's treasure In Canada, there is also the Fullcircles network -- FullCircles.org -- in addition to Freecycle and ReUseIt. And, there are local "flavours" of freecycling in the U.K. as well.

POPSIsland Wood: City Kids First Visit with Nature & Environmentalism An environmental learning center—nestled into a rustic 250-acre nature preserve—plays a dual role as symbol and teaching tool. "We envision a future in which all people view themselves as lifelong learners, and share an extraordinary bond of stewardship for the environment, for their communities and for each other." Raising of environmental consciousness, one child at a time. “The center is primarily for inner-city kids who don’t have an opportunity to connect with the natural world. And when kids are uncomfortable, they’re not open to learning. So we wanted them to be as comfortable here as possible.” The mission of IslandWood is to provide exceptional learning experiences and to inspire lifelong environmental and community stewardship.

POPSRetire early: Live beneath your means DLM offers 10 suggestions. Here's an 11th and a 12th. 11. Buy Used: Lots of stuff on Craigslist and other resale venues is actually new. Bought and never used! 12. Shop Freecycle / Fullcircles / ReUseIt / or ANY of the gifting / reuse networks springing up all around the world! . Paying nothing means you don't have buy with after tax $$. And a lot of the stuff given away is also unused - new stuff; bought and never used! Think of all the money you can save. Makes it possible to either work less; or retire early. /e

POPSGrowing Urban Potato "Trees" I just this morning learned that 2008 is the United Nations 'YEAR OF THE POTATO'. The first thing I thought of was this potato tree idea that I used many, many years ago. Growing potatoes locally is good; reusing old tires is good.... Sounds like a win-win in 2008.

POPSREDUCE, Reuse, Recycle We often see the expression "REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE". But what exactly do we mean when we say "REDUCE"? There are some simple every day ideas here.

POPSGarden art This is a beautiful example of reuse. See... you CAN make a silk purse out of a sow's ear... /egs

POPSA "FullCircles" lesson: Keep the memories, not the stuff You're probably asking yourself. Is this guy nuts? What can you learn from an old bowling ball. You'd be surprised! Read it for some lessons in sustainability / good stewardship! Every little bit helps. Little bits add up! They really do. What's in YOUR idle assets inventory? /egs

POPSRegiving Included on this wikipedia page is a list of "regiving" networks. Significant by its absence is the Freecycle network (... an oversight????) /egs

POPSWhat is a "Free Store" People in the world-wide freecycing network sometimes hold what they call "Free-for-Alls" in their garages, yards and driveways. Usually held on a Saturday morning when folks are driving around surfing garage sales.

POPSThe composting gateway... I'm on a campaign to increase the interest in composting by crossposting "stuff" on composting in a variety of social networking places. This gateway was originally built for freecyclers, but it is quite generic.

POPSRecycling after Christmas A British site, but the ideas are quite portable! There are probably local equivalents for every idea posted on this site! /egs
