POPSPaper Cuts -- Clean, Beautiful and Perfect I discovered these breathtaking paper creations some time ago, but never got around to blogging about such a deserving topic. The web page link laid dormant in my bookmarks until today when I was conducting my regular computer and bookmark cleaning. I've seen this type of artwork in person before, but those pieces (no pun intended) were created from very small sheets of paper that measured approximately 6 x 8 inches. The sculptures featured in this blog entry are simply exquisite. I can not begin to imagine how much tedious planning went into each piece before any cut was made. I am amazed at the perfection of each incision and fold. I wish I had more to say, but I am simply in awe.

POPSEven Nothing is Something As I've said as long as I can remember, "Even 'nothing' is 'something'." This article by Discover Magazine backs up my long standing theory (and saying that is near and dear to my heart), which is why this particular article is one of my favorite "20 Things You Didn't Know About" articles. Care to share your thoughts or more facts about "nothing"?

POPSHistory Lesson Behind Common Phrases and Customs I have only clipped the popular sayings and topics discussed in this article. Please read the original source for explanations and details behind each subject. I am not certain as to the validity of some of these claims, but this was a very interesting read and well worth the time. Enjoy.

POPS"F" That "S" I understand and agree with the author's sentiments, but his complete entry would have been a bit easier to understand had he provided a footnote decoding each letter within quotations. My head was starting to hurt when trying to narrow down the possibilities for each letter. Although, his use of letters in place of words made the article much more enjoyable.

POPSCoffee Cup Sleeve Quilt What an interesting way to reuse coffee cup sleeves (the kind provided with hot beverages at retailers such as Starbucks, Beaners, The Coffee Bean, Caribou Coffee and the Coffee Beanary -- yes I've visited each one but Starbucks reigns supreme with me). And here I've just been recycling my coffee cup sleeves, or else attempting to reuse the same sleeve as often as possible. I admire this crafter's creativity and love the design and colors she selected for her quilt.

POPSRob Gonsalves' Artwork His artwork is exquisitely beautiful with a childlike imagination and innocence that is rather uncommon in adults. These images were found at http://haha.nu/amazing/seamless-pictures/ (via my husband while perusing a Something Awful Forum thread). Enjoy!

POPSMiniature Bag End - Inspirational
To bring a fictional world only viewed by the mind to life is usually thought to be possible only by movie crews funded by large production companies -- the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Chronicles of Narnia come first to mind -- but people like Obelia medusa (from LiveJournal) prove that ingenuity, creativity and sheer will power can make virtually anything possible. I stumbled across this LiveJournal entry months ago and still find myself revisiting it to view the intricate details of such a wonderful and amazing project. I truly admire her for her dedication to complete such a project. I can only imagine the amount of time, work and effort that went into planning, researching, finding and buying supplies, and constructing such an amazing miniature recreation of Bilbo and Frodo's Bag End. I have clipped only a handful of the volume of photos from Obelia medusa's post. Please visit her page for more images. The story and in-progress photographs are also linked from her post.

POPSClose Encounters meets Gathering of Souls When I first saw this photo I immediately thought of the classic movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Upon further observation, these fluorescent lights appear as though they are elongated forms of energy of individual souls hovering in uniform rows and columns awaiting some important mystic event.

POPSCommemorative & Awareness Months This article is a great source if you've ever wondered what national awareness and causes are assigned for each month. The linked page also includes commemorative days, and the more famous, and especially lesser-known or extremely odd, commemorative month events (like National Hug a Texas Chef Month and Better Breakfast Month). I selected some interesting (in my opinion), although not necessarily odd or famous, topics for this clip.

POPSGoogle Holiday Logos Do you remember any of these? Do you know which logos celebrate which holidays and events? This clip only features a small sampling of the creative artwork applied to the Google logo for special holidays and events. More can be viewed here: http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html.

POPSHappy Anniversary Harry Potter I'm just so excited about the upcoming film and much-anticipated final book that I just had to clip this. The idea of a Harry Potter themed amusement park is also very intriguing. I wonder what the future holds for the Harry Potter universe and franchise, and what J.K. Rowling will end up doing involving a profession, and as a celebrity, come 1, 5 or 10 years down the road.

POPSEvolution of the Starbucks Logo I personally prefer the current incarnation of the circular logo featuring a closeup shot of the double tailed siren (sans breasts and navel). We shall see if, when and how the Starbucks logo continues to evolve over time.
