POPSBaboon Metaphysics Under the right conditions, instinctive behavior would appear automatically, even if the animal had never before had the appropriate experience. When they act by instinct, then, animals are not behaving according to Lockean reason, carefully weighing the information acquired from experience. Instead, they are governed by “hereditary tendencies” acquired over generations.

POPSFriedman: An Eloquent Expression of the Future Though it has been criticized because of its ties to general relativity, this equation strikes me as highly poetic. Friedman expresses in mathematic formula this reality, that our fate is a balance of two forces: the inertia pulling us apart, and the critical mass and attractive forces pulling us together. If we slip apart, there is the slow and lonely Cold Death, but if attraction prevails we are trapped in the stifling and claustrophobic Big Crunch. Whatever the scientific validity of it, this equation expresses a fundamental truth I see mirrored in my own life...

POPSThe Making of Steely Dan's "Aja" Steely Dan is notorious for investing prodigious amounts of time and money into their music, taking as much resources to perfect one song as other bands do entire albums. Never were these efforts more evident than in their beloved 1977 masterpiece, Aja , a perfect album if their ever was one. In these fascinating clips, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen sit behind the mixer and discuss the meticulous planning and execution that went into every element of this 30-year-old classic. Includes interviews with contributors Wayne Shorter and Bernard Purdy.

POPSThe Epitome of Brotherly Love? We all can try harder to get along with people we strongly disagree with. I find this necessary, being a business owner. I have to deal with people I can't stand, all the time. But, I do my best to put my differences I have with people behind me so that I can offer them what they need, in friendship, without compromising what I'm about to please them. It is always easier to hate than it is to show compassion. We don't have to agree with everyone to be their friend. Both these men with very divergent opinions and businesses/public personas were able to put all that crap aside to communicate with each other. What more can we do to get along with our fellow man? I'm an atheist, but I still find very little place in my life to be angry at everyone who strongly disagrees with me. Life is too short to be a hater.

POPSAncient boy's skeleton sparks evolution debate Dr. Emma Mbua, the head of the paleontology at the museum said:"There are issues about the security.." "These fossils are irreplaceable and we wouldn't want anything to happen to them." Mbua, a Protestant, said "Turkana Boy is our jewel." "For the first time, we will be taking him out of the strong room and showing our heritage to the world." Mbua is a little taken aback at the controversy but has no problems reconciling her own faith to the scientific evidence, so she adds, "Evolution is a fact."
