POPSPatent law may be changing! I've long believed the US patent system to be broken, allowing "patent portfolio" companies to file for the simplest and most inane things and then sit on them while others actually innovate in a space. That said, I don't know if I'm behind the switch from first-to-invent to first-to-file. Could that cause an even bigger problem of people rushing to patent every little thing before someone else steals it out from under them? Lets hope the section on improving patent quality includes stricter checks for prior art and limits frivolous claims.

POPSiWant One As an extremely happy user of one of the very first 128k Macs back in the day, I doubt the price of the new iPhone will be a limiting factor in its sales. I willingly spent my entire summer's earnings to buy my own fab 128k Mac for my college years...and it was worth every hard-earned dollar I spent. Considering that this generation of teens and twenty-somethings tends to have access to more cash than any prior youth generation, I predict the iPhone's price tag will barely be a hurdle in acquiring it, and a justifiable sacrifice for those who must earn their way to buy one.

POPSMedieval Tech Support Wow - I'm usually not that jaded about tech support (I loved that job when I did it) but this is really true and really funny!

POPSJobs speaks out against DRM There's a million things I hate about DRM, but the main one is that it's often used to restrict behavior that its not illegal, but is simply not in the record companies favor. Give me a reasonably priced, DRM-free .mp3 download service, and I'll never buy a CD again.

POPSWhere are Home and End on Mac? I've just switched to a Macbook Pro, and the lack of proper home and end keys was driving me batty. Turns out that hitting CMD+Right or CMD+Left to the trick, and there's lots more handy shortcuts.

POPSWhat's Coming in Firefox 3 There's plenty more coming listed at the article source, and I'm sure there will be many changes before even an alpha materializes, but it's interesting to see what the general direction is.

POPSMacWorld Drinking game! The image is a little too big, but it was too funny not to clip. I'll be watching the keynote very closely, as I'm buying a new macbook, and I've been waiting to make sure there weren't any surprise announcements (like, say, a quad core macbook pro).

POPSWireless USB is here! Wireless USB has been a long time coming. With huge data transfer speeds and a nice range, UWB and wireless USB could enable a whole new generation of connected home devices. IPTV and videoconferencing in your kitchen, anyone?

POPSI'm a geek too! CNet includes my comments on clipmarks. I'd say "working with" rather than "working at" - a slight misquote ;) I met Eric G a few weeks back and got so excited about Clipmarks that I've been spending thursdays here in the office, brainstorming about how I can help build the clipmarks community and spread the word.
