POPSToday's Woot is a Great Deal You get two ear infection checkers (that sell from around $50 each at Amazon) for $20. It has great reviews and terrible reviews. I'm not sure which to check. We ordered a pair of them and will give the extra to a friend who just got a new baby in foster care and had another adopted son who is prone to ear infections. I hope that this is helpful to someone!

POPSNew SSA popular baby names released The very top ones are pretty much the same as last year. Quinn is rising quickly in popularity on both the boy and girl lists. Brigid is not listed. Beckett, which would have been Quinn's middle name if she was a boy, is ON the list this year. This is the first year on the list for Beckett. Just follow the ssa.gov link below and it will take you to the form where you can type in names.

POPSThe Skinny on Formula I saw this in my health news that I read at work every morning. Researchers have identified some sort of substance that they believe they can put in formula and guarantee that children will grow up to be skinny adults. My initial gut reaction is horror. Why would they want to put some crazy substance in what millions of babies will be drinking. What if it has effects that they aren't aware of? My next reaction comes from Dr. Hope. If this really worked, I'd worry about heart disease and cholesterol. If people looked healthly, they would be less likely to get check-ups for what is going on inside. People don't DIE of fat. Fat is related to what goes on inside. Doesn't that make this formula cosmetic? Reaction #3 is pissiness. Are fat people that horrible that we have to program our babies to be skinny? Sadly, my last reaction is jealousy. I wish I could have been programmed to be thin. Follow the link for the whole article

POPSNo Cup Feeding for Breast-Feeding Infants We tried cup-feeding Quinn a few times because we were nervous about how many bottles she was getting (with good reason, the little bottle junky). I think cup-feeding could work if you have a sedate little newborn, but Quinn flailed around so much. We ALWAYS spilled some of the milk. I didn't have enough milk for her to be wearing it. We decided that we'd rather give her bottles than pour it on her. I think they should make bottles out of silicon that are exact casts of the mother's breast. True, the flow would not be the same, but the latch would feel more similar. I'm joking, here. Sort of.

POPSBreastfeeding Reduces Risk Of Breast Cancer For Women Who Delay Childbirth My mom, grandmother and aunt all have developed breast tumors. Grandma's were cancerous. Mom's and Lu's were not, but were described as possibly pre-cancerous. This has lead me to feel my boobs are doomed. The article gives me some hope. I don't think any of them breastfed, so this is something I'm doing that may give me a help. This also makes me wonder, if Megan induces lacation, will it have the same protective effect for her?

POPSRat poison found in tainted pet food I'm sure that all of you have heard about this recall, but on the tiniest chance that you haven't and you use any of these brands of pet food, I wanted to post it here. There are LOTS of brands, including a ton of store brands, such as America's Choice and Meijer. We buy Iams and Nutro Max dry food, but none of our wet foods are on the list. The complete lists are under the link below.
