POPSSleep late! Early rising not good for heart I wonder exactly how they did this study. Was there a control group of older folks that sleep late? Surely there must have been some factor that would point to the fact that early risers are not just older. Maybe there will be more details in the presentation this week. The part about sleep deprivation is interesting in either case. Lack of sleep does strange things, not just to your body, but to your mind as well.

POPSZowie!Very baby gets (almost) whole new body! This was one very sick little boy. I didn't even know they could do intestinal transplants now. This little tiny 8-month old boy got almost a whole digestive tract transplant. Must be a trooper. I just had two organs transplanted in 2000 and I though I was going to DIE. Thank God te parents of the other infant had the heart to donate their baby's organs to someone who would have also died without them. It renews my faith in humanity.

POPSHow our brains fill 'gaps' Interesting read on how the brain works. Makes me wonder if this phenomenon increases or decreases as sight impairment goes up. Likewise, would people whose depth-perception is already affected by disease (or whatever) still experience this effect?

POPSNew technique in identifying deadliest form of cancer People diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are generally told they have less than a year to live. Tthe survival rate is only about 10-15% after one year and 1-3% after 5 years. Early detection is key to being a candidate for surgery. By the time symptoms appear, almost 80 % are inoperable. Hopefully, this new technique will enable more people to detect it before it's too late. I had a friend that died from it at 24.

POPSAother step closer to discovering a cure for type I diabetes Good news for the 5-10% of the population that has type I diabetes. They are edging closer and closer and closer to discovering a cure...or at least an immunization. People with insulin-dependent ( type I) diabetes are 2-4 x more likely to die of heart disease and stroke, have high blood pressure, kidney disease and/or kidney failure, blindness, nervous system disease, amputation, dental disease, and complications of pregnancy.
