Really interesting to learn some mistakes to avoid, like falling in overwhelming energy/action at first and take the time to define targeted clients, actual means to convince (business always look better and clearer in your imagination, better write it down and illustrate it with white papers/case studies), value-proposition, and sustainability through recurring business with the same client. Thanks for Sharing your Kwiqq's experience Raj!

What Amplify is and should be - my 2 cents
iliasben
by iliasben  3-18-2010    2
Do you remember going to school when you were young and worrying about how you felt about other kids' stupid chats/behaviors and worrying that you did not fit, and that your mom told you: honey you are special, you are different that's why. But when you said how or why, she could not tell and just gave you a huge kiss and a lot of love! Ok you don't remember, you were the "other" kids I'm talking about! ;) Well, Eric, the CEO of Amplify is thinking the same. He knows his baby is different, he just don't know exactly how or to what extent or how to make it more special. Here is my take: 1. First I do think that this site IS amazing. The owner seems smart and genuinely nice: customer service is number 1. But specifically by seeing what happened to Clipmarks (keeping good posts, its freshness and sens of community after a couple of years and not falling into the bashing you can see on digg), I think the sense of a SMART community is what drives the two projects

Mark march 13 in history as Google lose its US Crown of US most visited site. But, is it Quality vs Quantity?
iliasben
by iliasben  3-17-2010
I don't think that advertisers will chose one over the other, but I do think that they do not target the same market. Facebook is more about interaction and Branding (yes with a big B!) and Google about Buying (again same big B! ;) The ROI and conversion rate on Facebook seems to be far low of Facebook than on Google. People go to Facebook to hangout, so not really to buy anything, while many people look for stuff to buy on Google. Here is a comparison of conversion between Facebook, Google and Yellowpages: http://www.quantumcritics.com/20090813690/technology/technology/facebook-ads-vs-google-adwords-vs-yellowpages-for-marketing-your-business-products-and-services/conversion-rate.html, but if you are selling crap (read: sex, MLM etc..http://www.flikteoh.com/facebook-ads-quality-and-conversion-rate.html go for it!) Also, it's more about campains on Facebook with huge money put to create buzz and make the name out there, so it's probably less interesting for small companies. Look

Tuer le gros bon sens?
iliasben
by iliasben  3-15-2010

I stumbled upon this article while trying to build "something for someone", and it makes me wonder how to allocate the meager "communication resources" when launching a company. It has been a while that I haven't stopped upon an article that does not give you an answer but just make you wonder... interesting, specifically in the world of "superfastly typed 140 caracters" and "follow me, I'll show you my (naked)-life" communication... -------- Here is the rest of the selected parts of article: "Of course, blogging took a ton of my time: It is a manual, labor-intensive, homemade way to reach customers. All told, the work I've put into the website and related books, training videos, conferences, and even this column has probably accounted for about a third of the total work I've put into Fog Creek Software over the past decade. That's three or four years of my work life. Was it worth it? Should you blog? Well, it worked brilliantly for me, but the more I've looked around, the

Check the synaptics settings for it. Go to your control panel, and find the settings for mouse (hardware>mouse). go to the device settings tab, highlight synaptics touch pad, and click settings, and just mess around with various things in there. You can even set a corner to middle click instead of having to push both buttons. hot corners on the mouse pad is pretty nifty. But to answer your question directly, go to "Virtual scrolling" on the left hand side on the window, and just check "enable horizontal scrolling"

Patch Adams hospital - Gesundheit - still not built but such an answer for community based services
iliasben
by iliasben  8-22-2008
There will be 30,000 square feet devoted to the arts in a fully arts-centered hospital. There will be a school for social change and in-depth agricultural programs. Staff persons who've served for four years and want a little distance from the intensity of the hospital can create their fantasy living space in our village. I want to tell all readers that the journey has been heavenly all along the way. Simply being in an idealist quest is its own reward. I've never felt I've sacrificed anything or thought it was a hard journey. Hard would have been having to work in corporate medicine and lie to patients and myself every day. My concern for humanity's future drives me to want to put whatever efforts I can to changing everything that hurts people and nature. The Gesundheit! Institute is that for me, and so many others.

Is Google the New Yahoo!?
iliasben
by iliasben  2-29-2008
Google is a monster when it comes to syndicating its ads on third-party sites. AdSense revenue, which accounts for more than a third of the company's total revenue with its presence on sites like News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace, CNET (Nasdaq: CNET), or Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) AOL and CNN.com, climbed 37% higher this past quarter at Google. That compares to a 13% year-over-year dip in affiliate revenue at Yahoo! during the same period. Google has also been growing beyond the clickthrough, whether it's through impression-based display advertising or expanding its action-based affiliate program spots. There is also the monetization of the fast-growing YouTube. Is revenue growth going to decelerate this quarter? Definitely. Is it going to slam on the brakes and go in reverse? This isn't Crazy Taxi! The comScore data pegged Google's click growth at just 25% this past quarter, but Google's top line actually soared 51%.

Octobre 2007 - Octobre 1987: similitues ou nostalgies?
iliasben
by iliasben  10-19-2007

Instructions for Recording Your Course Work-Time
iliasben
by iliasben  10-19-2007
To make this determination, the experimenter taught the material to groups of students using different approaches and then tested the amount of learning accomplished per approach. Somewhat surprisingly, the experimenter's main finding was that it made little difference which teaching approach was used. The only thing that was found to matter was the amount of time the students spent learning the material -- the more time they spent learning, the more they learned (Murdock 1960, 1962; Jung 1968 pp. 56 & 145-46). This made me curious about how much time I was actually spending on my courses. This led me to make the form and to start tracking my time. The first thing I learned from tracking my time was that I was spending much less time on my courses than I had guessed. I saw that the gaps on the form often represented wasted time -- time that I realized in retrospect was unwisely spent. This led me to spend more time on my courses and on other activities that I judged were impor

How Google Works
iliasben
by iliasben  10-16-2007
And Google's market share is growing; a year ago, it was 36.5%. The same survey indicates that Americans conducted 6.6 billion searches online in April, up 4% from the previous month. Google sites led the pack with 2.9 billion search queries performed, followed by Yahoo sites (1.9 billion) and MSN-Microsoft (858 million). This growth is driven by scalable technology. As Google noted in its most recent annual report filing with the SEC: "Our business relies on our software and hardware infrastructure, which provides substantial computing resources at low cost. We currently use a combination of off-the-shelf and custom software running on clusters of commodity computers. Our considerable investment in developing this infrastructure has produced several key benefits. It simplifies the storage and processing of large amounts of data, eases the deployment and operation of large-scale global products and services, and automates much of the administration of large-scale clusters of computer

On internal Project Management tools at Google
iliasben
by iliasben  10-16-2007
Baseline Mag is a great Project Management resource for those who are keen on the subject. I also like Gantthead very much. A more traditional project tracking application would use a form to make users plug the data into different fields and checkboxes, giving the computer more structured data to process. But instead of making things easier for the computer, Google’s approach is to make things easier for the user and make the computer work harder. Employees submit their reports as an unstructured e-mail, and the project tracking software works to “understand” the content of those e-mail notes in the same way that Google’s search engine extracts meaning from Web pages. Those project tracking reports go into a repository—searchable, of course—so that managers can dip in at any time for an overview on the progress of various efforts. Other Google employees register their interest in a project they want to track, regardless of whether they have any official connection to that proje
