POPSThe face of life I love watching this face; seems as life almost managed to erase the lines that set apart ethnicity, gender, era and such, leaving in their rigid stead a unique expression of life itself.

POPSThe Straight Facts on Women in Poverty The best policy solutions to address women’s poverty must combine a range of decent employment opportunities with a network of social services that support healthy families, such as quality health care, child care, and housing support. Policy objectives must also recognize the multiple barriers to economic security women face based on their race, ethnicity, immigration status, sexuality, physical ability, and health status. These approaches must promote the equal social and economic status of all women by expanding their opportunities to balance work and family life.

POPSMore & more Jewish Israelis support expelling Arab citizens of Israel This is ethnic cleansing, plain and simple. It is driving people from their homes and ancestral lands, stripping them of their citizenship, all based on their religion & ethnicity. This is what American tax $$$ pays for. Supporting a racist, ethno-state. So much for the myth of Israeli democracy. Remember, they're talking about the roughly 1 million citizens of the state of Israel who happen to be Arab. This includes Christians as well as Muslims. They're talking about stripping them of their citizenship and expelling them. All paid for by American tax dollars.

POPSUK White Supremacist Guilty of Bomb Plot He was remanded in custody for sentencing on September 8 and was warned by the judge he faced a lengthy prison sentence. Earlier this month, a senior British counter-terrorism officer told a Muslim security group that police feared a rise in attacks by far-right groups. "We treat right wing extremism as seriously as any other form of violent extremism and will continue to investigate such activity with the same determination," John McDowall, head of London's Counter Terrorism Command, said.

POPSGermany’s Green Party Elects First Ethnic Turk as Leader With a conservative party’s choice of Angela Merkel to run as chancellor in 2005 — a successful gambit — and now an ethnic Turk at the helm of an influential party, it appears that German society is slowly breaking with the past, when women were inconspicuous and immigrants’ voices were seldom heard.

POPSNew York Times: "highly disturbing pattern of bias."
'Support for Israel is ironclad, absolute, and uncompromising on everything including its worst crimes of war and against humanity. Open debate is stifled, and anyone daring to dissent or demur is pilloried, ridiculed, called anti-Semetic, even threatened, ostracised, and finally ignored. In his seminal work on Middle East affairs, "Fateful Triangle," Noam Chomsky put it this way: "....Israel has been granted a unique immunity from criticism in mainstream journalism and scholarship...."' Simply put, the NYT is a rag unworthy of the tees needed Today, it's the pillar of the corporate media and main instrument of fake news making it the closest thing in the country to an official ministry of information and propaganda. No media source anywhere has more clout than the Times, none manipulates the public mind more effectively, and where it goes, others follow. It's most visible supporting all things corporate, foreign wars of aggression, and everything favouring Israel it views one

POPSIt wasn't Affirmative Action that bumped your kid's college acceptance Yet another way the rich stick it to us while we blame the poor: Twice as many as assisted nonwhite admissions are rich white kids with connections. Only 40% of financial aid goes to students with financial need. ... many get into exclusive colleges the same way people get into trendy night clubs, by knowing the management or flashing cash at the person manning the velvet rope

POPSAvatar and the Myth of the Noble Blueskins: Part Two
The Comanche on the Southern Plains achieved a reputation for capping off such gruesome “festivities” by skinning the female captive alive, or burning her to death – usually after they had bashed her baby’s head out against a tree. And don’t buy all that claptrap about the European settlers creating scalping, they didn’t. American Indian tribes really did start the practice, after a period of taking the whole head for spiritual reasons well before the white man ever showed up on the shores of North America. Occasional settlers and soldiers took scalps and it was usually considered a case of fighting fire with fire. When Rogers’ Rangers, the great grandfathers of all modern Special Forces units, snuck 200 miles behind French and Indian lines up into Canada in 1759 to attack the Abanaki village of Saint Francis the streets of the village were lined with scalp poles. There were hundreds of them each with dozens of New England colonist’s scalps, women and children as well, on every pole

POPSClipmarks: NO REASON AT ALL NEEDED TO DELETE COMMENTS This was the thread that led to my asking Clipmarks for clarification on their comment deletion policy. It's official. {{Antara}}, and any clipper, is allowed to delete any comment on clips they initiate, for any reason or none at all. I personally maintain a "No personal attacks against other clippers" policy as my only reason for censoring comments. But if I just don't like you, your politics, your hair-color, your religion, your ethnicity, sexual orientation, your city of birth, the facts you offer... I can delete your comments, no consequences. The deletion pop-up reads Please only remove comments that appear to be spam or that you believe to be unquestionably outside the bounds of civility. But that's only a suggestion. I think this will lead to less discussion and a even more negativity and hostility between clippers, and I do hope Clipmarks reconsiders.

POPSWhy do Palestinians get more attention than Tibetans? Prager: "The first reason is terror. The Palestinian leadership decided, with the support of the Palestinian people, that murdering as many innocent people was the fastest way to garner world attention. They were right. On the other hand, as The Economist notes in its March 28, 2008 issue, "Tibetan nationalists have hardly ever resorted to terrorist tactics…" It is interesting to speculate how the world would have reacted had Tibetans hijacked international flights, slaughtered Chinese citizens in Chinese restaurants and temples, on Chinese buses and trains, and massacred Chinese schoolchildren." The second reason is oil and support from Arabs. The Palestinians have the unqualified support of all Middle Eastern oil-producing nations and the support of the Muslim world. The Tibetans are poor and have the support of no nations, let alone oil-producing ones.

POPSOver To You, Keith… So as a Boricua, am I colored? I guess I’m olive but if I hit the beach on a sunny day I can be golden brown. Is he referring strictly to skin color? Culture? Ethnicity? I mean, I’m not that much darker than Mr. Olbermann himself. Do I fall into his “people of color” category? Or, as I suspect, are “people of color” just code for those who deviate too much from the skin color which Olbermann seems to deem as the standard? I mean, come on, Olbermann has no color, right? He’s white. That ain’t no color. That’s just how it’s supposed to be, right? So, all I can think of is that he means “black.” Black people are colored, and everyone else is just normal and a-OK. Man, this race and colors stuff is difficult to understand! And secondly, the question is stupid, the premise terribly moronic and the insinuation totally insulting. The Tea Party protesters aren’t racist. Are there a few kooks with nefarious motivations? Sure, every movement has them. ....

POPSEthnic disparities in treating pain in U.S. Emergency Rooms More: In the study, opioid narcotics were prescribed in 31 percent of the pain-related visits involving whites, 28 percent for Asians, 24 percent for Hispanics and 23 percent for blacks. Minorities were slightly more likely than whites to get aspirin, ibuprofen and similar drugs for pain. In more than 2,000 visits for kidney stones, whites got narcotics 72 percent of the time, Hispanics 68 percent, Asians 67 percent and blacks 56 percent. The data came from a well-regarded government survey that collects information on emergency room visits for four weeks each year from 500 U.S. hospitals. The new study was funded by federal grants.

POPSWhat do you believe is the next step in humanity's evolution? Desmond Tutu: "Give young people a greater voice. They are the future and they are much wiser than we give them credit for. And laugh more." Logging on to empower women, by Sana Saleem, "For a society to progress, human rights have to be guaranteed, with the assurance that rights are maintained without gender bias or discrimination. Gender-based violence reflects and reinforces injustices and compromises the health, dignity, and liberty of its victims. Such violence covers a wide range of human rights violations. The impact of any one of these abuses can leave psychological scars, or, in extreme instances, prove fatal. Violence against women has been called the most pervasive yet least recognised form of human rights abuse in the world. The campaign has evolved into a strategic program aimed at combating violence." http://blog.dawn.com/2010/03/04/logging-on-to-empower-women/

POPSGathering storm The acquiring of and failure to discard seemingly useless possessions, causing significant clutter, distress, and impairment to basic living activities. That's the definition mental health researchers have basically agreed on for compulsive hoarding and cluttering. They also agree that hoarding behaviors cut across ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status, and although the elderly tend to hoard more than the young, they certainly don't have a monopoly. Hoarders can often be identified in suburban areas by the possessions spilling out of their homes, while in cities like San Francisco, they are often concentrated in smaller, concealed dwellings. According to a just-released citywide task force report on hoarding, there are an estimated 12,000 to 25,000 hoarders living in San Francisco.

POPSWhite America has never liked social insurance for people of color More: Meanwhile, there has been a massive expansion in government-sponsored welfare going disproportionately to the white and affluent. What the political scientist Christopher Howard calls the hidden welfare state includes the tax-favored employer-provided health insurance that most working-age Americans depend on, as well as the home mortgage interest deduction and the childcare and child tax credits. Affluent and educated workers are more likely to work for employers who provide private health benefits than are low-skilled workers and employees of small businesses. Personal tax benefits like the home mortgage interest deduction are available only to the top half of households who pay federal income taxes, and are unavailable to lower-income workers who pay payroll taxes but no income taxes. In many cases, the benefits of this tax-credit welfare state increase with income.
