POPSLiving With Darwin The final chapter is a nuanced and rather wonderful account of why providentialist religion must be false, but why this fact should not inspire in atheists any kind of triumphalism or disrespect for religion. It is, in other words, opposed both to fundamentalist Christianity, and to the militantly secularist atheism propounded by Dawkins, Harris, Dennett and the like.

POPSReligion and war will die out, scientists predict Daniel Dennett (okay, not a scientist, but still) and others predict that as people's access to information becomes more democratic and widespread, the appeal of traditional religions and fundamentalisms will evaporate. These folks obviously know nothing about religions or how they work...

POPSChristian Cathedrals vs Muslim Mosques I have a feeling that Munich is probably not alone in their concern (call it what you will), but do find it interesting that more are speaking out about it. In the long run, I wonder where 'speaking out' will eventually take this issue. Is it actually fear based? Or is it a feeling of being 'pushed out?' Or is it merely prejudice? Probably all of the above.

POPSMuslim religion taught in US public schools So, they are now allowing prayer in school again, but only Muslim prayers and your grades depend on it. I just wonder why it is only Muslim. I wouldn't mind this so much, but they should include all major religions such as Christianity (maybe even broken down between Catholic and Protestant since they are quite different), Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism (not as big world wide, but not uncommon here in the states). But what really gets me is that after all the "separation of church and state" attacks on anything Christian in public that they (the courts and the ACLU) would allow the teaching of Muslim and Muslim only in public schools.
