POPSIntimacy In A Fluid World FM-2030 was a name adopted by the transhumanist philosopher and futurist Fereidoun M. Esfandiary (October 15, 1930–July 8, 2000), who professed "a deep nostalgia for the future."

POPSWhat Aunt Jemima Would Never Tell Them... I imagine there were quite a few other things Aunt Jemima would never tell them! Like make your own damn breakfast! "She landed her present incarnation as benevolent pancake maker through the attempts of ad men James Webb Young and N. C. Wyeth in the 1920s to capitalize on white nostalgia for the "leisure" of the plantation system. Geared for middle-class homemakers, Aunt Jemima's "ready-mixed" breakfast thus served as a "slave in a box," according to Manring." POPSReclaiming King: Beyond "I Have a Dream" "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." -- Dr. Martin Luther King jr, "Letter from Birmingham Jail", April 1963

POPSNostalgia Today A few of the things that are only with us in thought. Imagine writing an essay on a typewriter. I, for one, won't want to go back to those "good ole days". I still probably have trace amounts of White Out in my system.

POPSThe voices of Rocky and Bullwinkle After the initial shock of hearing these beloved voices coming from humans (!) I came to appreciate how just much those humans resemble Bullwinkle and Rocky. See for yourself! :)

POPSThe Transformers Trailer is out! Here's the direct link to the trailer. I wasn't a huge Transformers nut when I was a kid, so I'm not super excited for this, but I am extremely curious to see how they work the transformations to make it look plausible in a "real world" setting.

POPSOlder Men (and Women) Trying Not to Be Angry This makes a lot of sense. The radical fringe has had its way for too long, and its time for a new era of bi-partisenship. As the article points out Bush and his partner Karl Rove have been riding the wave of "divide and conquer" for the past eight years. Every step of the way they have pandered to the "Base" and the Basic Insticts of those who don't have the good of the country in mind.....just the good of whatever ideology they believe in. They have been willing to sacrifice real values and replace them with their own prejudices. Most of the time Karl Rove just looked for a way to win elections...he was very good at it. I have been angry for a long time, but its time for a change....let's get it together....for the good of the country and our children and grandchildren!

POPSRussian media None of this is or should be about Russia or the Russian people. All of it stinks of Soviet propaganda, Soviet brutality, Soviet morality, and Soviet nostalgia. It is the handiwork of the siloviki clique that currently monopolizes power in Russia through authoritarian politics, kleptocratic economics, and media manipulation. This clique must be shown that war crimes do not pay. The Russian people, too, need to learn that nostalgia for Soviet imperialism is a dead end for Russia.
