Medical malpractice reform won't save very much
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  10-9-2009
The centerpiece of Republican ideas on healthcare reform apparently won't save as much money as they thought.

Conservatives decry own idea as ominous government intrusion
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  8-15-2009    1
Yes, the paranoia has reached ridiculous levels. Apparently, to some conservatives, any idea becomes evil the second it becomes associated with Barack Obama or Democrats. The quote by Chuck Norris is really hilarious.

Brief Bio of Head of Tea Party Committee
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  8-12-2009
The New York Times interviewed some people at Arlen Specter's health care town hall. It turns out, the head of the local Tea Party committee is an unemployed man who's actively voting to shoot himself in the foot. Apparently, this is what happens when you spend all your off-time listening to conservative talk radio.

Republican operative claims to be "unaffiliated with any political party" at town hall meeting
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  8-8-2009
To be absolutely fair to her, the local news video on the original article shows that her statements might technically be true. She may not have been involved in party activities since last year. So her statement may have merely been misleading rather than an outright lie.

Conservatives claim Medicare isn't a government program
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  8-6-2009    1
Personally, I've always thought people should have stopped listening to Arthur Laffer after he extrapolated a curve from two points back in the early 80s. Unfortunately, those who cannot think straight become TV pundits.

Sarah Palin's poll numbers drop, even among evangelicals
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  7-24-2009
So I wonder what she's done to upset evangelicals. Lack of intelligence usually doesn't phase that crowd at all.

    George Voinovich's Hypocrisy
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  7-24-2009
That's right. Voinovich admits that Republicans are politicizing the healthcare debate, and then indignantly accuses Lee Fisher of politicizing said debate. Apparently, right-wing cognitive dissonance is catching.

    Evangelicals may go Democratic
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  4-13-2008    7
If a fair number of evangelicals were to actually vote for a liberal like Obama in the general election, that would mark a sea change in U.S. politics. I can't help but worry that Hell would also freeze over.

Bhutto's niece speaks out against aunt, system
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  1-22-2008    1
Granted, her mother blames Benazir Bhutto for her father's violent death, but these comments are still interesting. Charges of systemic corruption are more credible when they come from somebody who's not actively seeking office.

It was hard to get a coherent 1000-character clip out of this, but the point's an interesting one. The more in-depth analysis in the full article is worth reading, too.

Fake Romney Christmas Cards in SC
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  12-30-2007
I find it ironic that the guy who ran George W. Bush's campaign in 2000 is talking about how these tactics backfire. After all, Bush did this kind of stuff to McCain in South Carolina that year, very successfully.

CQ Analyisis: Race and Gender in 2008 Presidential Election
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  1-1-2007
I find this analysis kind of amusing when it comes to Southern Ohio. This state has elected women to statewide office before, including a Republican attorney general. Furthermore, the Republican nominee for governor last year was a black man, J. Kenneth Blackwell. Ohio Republicans have no problem voting for either women or minorities. This sounds like another attempt by the political class to blame the potential failure of liberal politics to capture votes on such things like race and gender (see, Jesse Jackson c. 1984 and 1988).
