Why I use Clipmarks
I Love the convenience of saving the "important" part of articles which I enjoy.
I appreciate the wealth of knowledge on eclectic topics which is available on clipmarks. Glad that I'm a clipper......I end up spending more time on this site every week. I am meeting some really nice people too. It is sad to see that the media cannot be trusted; the truth is out there -- but who's truth?

Thoughts on Death

Walt Whitman described it in Song of Myself: All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses, And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier.

Death As Timeless Reality
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  10-15-2009    1
Death is ultimately just another transformation, from one configuration of matter and energy into another. But unless you can stand outside the arena of change, death represents an end point, an extinction. To escape death ultimately means escaping the worldview that gives death its terrible sense of closure and finality. Adapted from Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, by Deepak Chopra (Three Rivers Press, 1998).

Edgar Allan Poe finally getting proper funeral
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  10-8-2009
If you are a fan of E.A.Poe, as I am, this entire article is a must read. ~~~ "When they dug up Poe's body in 1875 to move it, it was mostly skeletal remains," Jerome said. "I've seen remains of people who've been in the ground since that time period, and there's hardly anything left." Instead, Jerome commissioned local special-effects artist Eric Supensky to create an eerily lifelike — or deathlike — mock-up of Poe's corpse. "I got chills," Jerome said Monday upon seeing the body for the first time. "This is going to freak people out." The body will lie in state for 12 hours Wednesday at the Poe House, a tiny rowhome in a gritty section of west Baltimore. Visitors are invited to pay their respects. Following the viewing will be an all-night vigil at Poe's grave . Anyone who attends will have the opportunity to deliver a tribute. On Sunday morning, a horse-drawn carriage will transport the replica of Poe's body from his former home to the graveyard for the funeral.

Floyd, who was born near Reading in Berkshire, presented a number of popular cookery programmes from the 1980s, characteristically enjoyed with a glass of wine in his hand. Recordings were often made on location, which was groundbreaking for the time.

End of life management - Conservative Style
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  8-31-2009    4
Feel sorry for the guy that he felt that was his only way out. Seems like physician assisted suicide would have been far less jolting on his loved ones. It's sad when you can not have a way to end your life on your terms in a dignified manner. On another note. While in Ireland Egan will be most remembered for attending a Sinn Fein annual convention right after 9/11. Because the visit took place directly in the aftermath of 9/11 Sinn Fein was under pressure on the terrorism front. Egan's presence signaled that the Bush administration was still determined to deal with Sinn Fein despite 9/11. What's this, conservatives negotiating directly with terrorists? Seems like all the noise from conservatives regarding direct political talks with terrorists is merely posturing and grandstanding for political gain regardless of outright hypocrisy.

Cemetery Technology: After Death - What would Grandma say?
gingembre
by gingembre  7-14-2007    7
The drive-by cemetery with tilted, glow-in-the-dark tombstones creeps me out. Another creepy suggestion is for Grandma to write e-mails addressed to you before she dies and arrange to have them delivered to you periodically after her death. Yikes! I would, however, give a lot to hear my grandmother's voice again. She died in 1985. :(
