POPSKucinich pursues impeachment This separation of powers was expressly intended to prevent a President from unilaterally summoning troops to war in the manner of a king. Are we willing to respect our institution, our Constitution and ourselves? Will this President, at last, be held accountable for lying to Congress to gain authorization for the use of force against Iraq? Will we allow future Presidents to take office knowing they can commit the same acts with impunity? Tomorrow I will bring forth a single article of impeachment which reviews the factual misrepresentations the President made to Congress to induce a favorable vote for the authorization for war. The only question that remains is - - will we do anything about it?"

POPSSoldier refuses to serve in illegal war
Former army sergeant Kristofer Goldsmith told the landmark hearing of "lawless murders, looting and the abuse of countless Iraqis." He spoke of the psychologically fragile men and women who return from Iraq to find little help or treatment offered from official circles. Goldsmith said he had "self-medicated" for several months to treat the wounds of the war. Another soldier told AFP he had to boost his medication to treat anxiety and social agoraphobia -- two of many lingering mental wounds he carries since his deployments in Iraq -- before testifying. Some 300,000 of the 1.6 million US soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, depression or both, an independent study showed last month. A group of veterans in the packed hearing room gazed blankly as their comrades' testimonies shattered the official version that the US effort in Iraq is succeeding. Almost to a man, the testifiers denounced serious flaws in the chain o

POPSAnti-war march across upstate NY 10days The longer this war continues, the more harm is done to our men and women in service, their families, our communities, the people of Iraq, and the world. It must stop. New York wants it to stop," said Lena Posner, another organizer.

POPS4 arrested at Kent State anti-war march "I'm pleasantly astounded by these kids today," said Arthrell, a teacher in the Cleveland City Schools. "They're really making a stand for a better world ... This is democracy's finest moment, when people take the initiative to change something on their own." There is an eerie similarity between 1970 and 2008. While I searched for yesterdays clip, I found articles about Viet Nam casualties, civilian deaths, Nixon's crimes. Substitute Iraq for Viet Nam and it all seems the same.

POPSWest Coast Array of Protests on May Day Operations in Oakland and other West Coast ports ground to a halt Thursday after ILWU workers stayed off the job, said Steve Getzug, spokesman for the Pacific Maritime Association, which represents companies that move cargo through the ports. "There is no activity," he said. "The ILWU struck West Coast ports and brought cargo operations to a virtual standstill." Music to my ears.

POPSSlavery By Another Name I saw Douglas Blackmon, Wall Street Journal reporter and author of "Slavery by Another Name", on the Tavis Smiley Show tonight. I had never before heard about neo-slavery. According to Blackmon, the South was culpable; the North was complicit. Modern companies, including US Steel, profited. The system didn't come to an end until the 1940s, "partly due to fears of enemy propaganda about American racial abuse at the beginning of World War II." 13th Amendment be damned, this sale of "convicts" to private enterprises to pay of "debts" was perfectly legal until 1951.

POPSNJ protesters greet Bush Some protesters like Patricia Kuc, of Wrightstown, want Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney impeached for starting the war in Iraq, among other reasons. When asked if she thought that would ever happen, she said, "No, unfortunately not, because the Republicans and the Democrats all play to the same tune." Kuc said she would like Bush and Cheney impeached for "tearing up our Constitution, creating an illegal war of aggression against people who didn't do anything to us and abandoning all of our civil rights." "We're going to be living in a fascist country very soon," she said. "The powers that has instilled in himself will go on to the next president and we will be in big trouble."

POPSCheney interview - someone needs to slap this guy I doubt that the video will play, you will probably have to go to the site.. This creature slithered out of disgusting slime and is a threat to everyone. He says Bushie has it worst because he is the one who decided to send in the troops. Then he emphasizes that it's an All Volunteer force. If you ever need to throw up, save this clip and watch it.

POPSStudents protest, joined by Navy Vet. facing 3rd deployment "I'm sick and tired of my students being sent to die for reasons they're told are noble," McVay said. McVay said it's time for the government to stop deluding soldiers. "They are telling them that they are protecting us against terrorism that is coming to our shores. … They are lying," McVay said. There were anti-war and peace signs strewn across the quad beside an area that contained about 4,000 Popsicle sticks with the names of U.S. military personnel who have died as a result of the war.
