POPSObama faces growing credibility crisis Could a “staged” terror attack be used to bolster Obama’s image and show his ability to handle a crisis in order to improve his poll standings? Read carefully the last paragraph in this clipping. Is this former Clinton official hinting at something?

POPSCops kill family pets while 7-year-old child watches This is just another example of the coming full-blown police state the United States is headed towards, as the rights of the American people are trampled underfoot, in the guise of fighting a "War on Drugs", or a "War on Terror". Governments will use any premise it can to increase its power and control over its citizens.

POPSBridgestone creates flexible color touchscreen e-paper Maybe someday soon, you'll be able to roll your e-reader screen up and put it in your pocket, just as you might do today with a newspaper or magazine. And have access to any number of magazines/newspapers, or books, as well as video content. I better start saving up, because I'll want a device like this, when it comes to market.

POPSWisconsin City Elects 19-year-old Mayor I think we need more young people like this to get involved and even run for office. Maybe it would bring some fresh ideas in politics. I especially like the fact that he was inspired by Ron Paul. (From the article) "He cites Ron Paul, the libertarian-leaning Republican congressman from Texas, as his political role model."

POPSWatch the Wikileaks Video U.S. Intelligence Tried to Suppress — Does it Reveal U.S. Military Cover Up?
In 2007, two Reuters employees — photographer Namir Noor-Eldeen and driver Saeed Chmagh — were killed by a U.S. helicopter strike in Baghdad. The U.S. military’s official response to the killings argued that the attack occurred after security forces came under fire from men accompanying the reporters, and that the rules of engagement were followed in returning fire. Skeptical of the military’s claim, Reuters filed a Freedom of Information Act request for video of the killings, but was unable to get the videos from the military, despite warnings from the Pentagon’s inspector general that future shootings were “likely to reoccur” if the event was not closely examined. During an event this morning at the National Press Club, whistleblower website Wikileaks unveiled that it has a video, obtained from unnamed military sources, from one of the Apache helicopters involved in the attack. The video, which has now been uploaded to YouTube and placed on a Wikileaks website dedicated to the i

POPSAustralian Government wants to censor internet--Google opposes plans Once again a government pulls out the same old excuse to censor the free flow of information..."we have to protect the children". It's either that excuse , or "stopping drug use", or "preventing terrorism". Isn't it odd how the only thing that ends up being restricted by all these government edicts are the rights of the citizens? Google may not be perfect, but least they're standing up and fighting this ridiculous attack on the "freedom of information". From the article: Google, which has recently been involved in a censorship spat with China, has been one of the filtering policy's harshest critics. It has identified a range of politically sensitive and innocuous material, such as sexual health discussions and discussions on euthanasia, which could be blocked by the filters. "This is a debate about freedom of access to information for all Australians, an issue of national importance. Let's focus on that," Google said.

POPSWTF! School Webcam Spy Case: Student disciplined for eating candy! Yet another case of a school administration abusing their authority and, in this case, just acting crazy. Spying on students in their homes is bad enough, but then to discipline a student for an "improper act", which turns out to be something innocent. The Washington Post has more information on this story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/19/AR2010021902004.html

POPSComing soon...Internet Censorship ! Governments everywhere...including the United States, will use the "war on terror", fighting pornography, copyright violations, peer-to-peer file-sharing, or other excuses as a way to censor and control internet content.

POPSU.S. citizen in CIA's cross hairs Maybe it's just me, but I find this story a bit disturbing. In fact, the whole idea of a government agency targeting people (whether they are US citizens or not) for assassination seems a bit scary. How is this that much different than someone entering the US with the intent to kill people? Why is one considered a terrorist act, but the other is not? And it's pretty likely that a Predator missile strike doesn't simply kill the one individual being targeted, but others around him.

POPSAre aliens already among us? Well, now I have the perfect excuse next time I take a day off from work. "Sorry, I can't come in today-I've been infected with an alien microbe".

POPSWill the next "War for Oil" occur in Venezuela? The United States has been "protecting its interests" in the Middle East, which I take to mean keeping control of the flow of oil. If huge oil deposits are found in Venezuela, will this lead to an attempt to "protect U.S. interests" by sending in troops? And if so, what will be the reason given? Terrorism? Regime change? Will Hugo Chavez be portrayed as a "dictator" who needs to be removed?

POPSTech School that is afraid of technology? This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of--a school that emphasizes science & technology being scared of a science project that uses technology. Wasn't there a science or technology teacher there that could have examined the device and tell if it was safe? If not, then they must have some pretty poor teachers, who aren't qualified to be teaching science/tech.
