POPSHealthcare: Compassion and cost-cutting go together "Mr. Bush claimed to be against excessive government expenditure. So what did he do to rein in the cost of Medicare, the biggest single item driving federal spending? Nothing. In fact, the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act drove costs up both by preventing bargaining over drug prices and by locking in subsidies to insurance companies"

POPSSet a new framework for the torture debate For apparently people were being tortured after the invasion of Iraq to coerce stories of an Al Qaeda involvement there before the invasion, for the purpose - not of intelligence - but of exonerating the Bush Administration.

POPSU.S. Foreign Policy Caused the Taliban Problem
The Taliban responded to Bush’s demand by asking him to furnish evidence of bin Laden’s complicity in the 9/11 attacks. Upon receipt of such evidence, they offered to turn him over to an independent tribunal instead of the United States. Bush never explained why the Taliban’s conditions were unreasonable. After all, as federal judges in the Jose Padilla case, the Zacarias Moussaoui case, and many others have confirmed, terrorism is a federal criminal offense. POPSAmount Obama received from AIG: Zero! Employees of AIG - a different matter - gave quite a bit, but not as much as they gave Bush in 04. And the #3 winner from AIG employees in 08? John McCain. If you contributed to the campaign of a public official at your work, would it be accurate to say that the company you work for made the contribution?

POPSBUSH PARDONS OSAMA BIN LADEN Satire by David Rees - and very funny ... "William Kristol insisted the pardon made sense." And no, wingers, I don't hate GWB. But if we ignore the consequences - not only of his questionable competence, but also of his inflexibly ideological outlook, we'll find ourselves having to dig out of this hole all over again some day. We must not forget.

POPSDawn Johnsen, Yoo opponent, nominated for Yoo's job Highly critical of John Yoo, the Asst Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel, who wrote legal opinions justifying Bush abuses. She insists it's the OLC's duty to restrain the President from illegal activities. Her position is, in fact, stronger than Obama's.
