POPSWant to see Obama's birth certificate? And look here: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html for FactCheck.org's thorough rebuttal of the "it's a phony copy" issue. They have hand-held the original, and confirmed its validity with the State of Hawaii. Two more articles are cited in the clip. The radical right's refusal to admit the obvious here is becoming more and more like simple disloyalty.

POPSTom Hayden on the Obama silence about Gaza "As the bombs fall on Gaza children and civilians, his credibility comes under greater question. The bright promise of moral leadership is sullied and squandered, along with the potential of America's ability to be an even-handed diplomatic mediator"

POPSWill the GOP ever learn? "Barack the Magic Negro" represents the remnants of the Cro-Magnon wing of the GOP, still clueless about why voters left them in droves.

POPSLong lines at polls: Just an accident? Hardly! They happen most in states with high numbers of African-Americans where GOP operatives run the show. It may be the new poll tax. Those who live in minority districts in GOP states may be discouraged from voting by a delay of hours that white districts may not have.

POPSThe Nine Nations of North America by Joel Garreau Have you ever wondered why San Francisco has more in common with Portland and Seattle than it does with Los Angeles, even though it's in the same state as LA while Portland and Seattle are in two different states? Joel Garreau would say that it's because Seattle, Portland, and SF all fall in the North American nation of Ecotopia , while LA is part of MexAmerica . Written in 1981, a lot of his ideas seem to be holding up. The book's webpage looks at the recent elections in terms of this model, and says that the regionalism he describes continues on, 27 years after the book was written. I read it several years ago, and was reminded of it now by {{wiccantexan}}'s clip Russian Professor Predicts Not-So-United States .

POPSWhat's wrong with Alaska's election? Despite a record-setting early vote throng, the overall participation supposedly decreased by 11% - the lowest participation by Alaskans in any presidential race ever! How could that be? Further, polls turned out way wrong, only here. Pre election polls had both Mark Begich-D and Ethan Berkowitz-D solidly beating incumbents Senator Ted Stevens and Congressman Don Young by at least 6-10 points. Stevens is currently ahead by 3,353 votes with 49,000 ballots left to count. Berkowitz, however, is behind by 16,887 votes; a 51-43 margin.

POPS"Nation Finally Awful Enough to Make Social Progress" ""Today Americans have grudgingly taken a giant leap forward," Williams continued. "And all it took was severe economic downturn, a bloody and unjust war, terrorist attacks on lower Manhattan, nearly 2,000 deaths in New Orleans, and more than three centuries of frequently violent racial turmoil." Said Williams, "The American people should be commended for their long-overdue courage."

POPSHow a Dale Earnhardt guy helped three Jewish oldsters They're denied entrance to the polling place because of their Obama gear - and a McCain backer helps them out . . . here's a good American story. (Apparently they were unaware that you can't be making partisan displays at polling places)

POPSNotice quiet on ACORN? There's a reason ... Two McCain-paid voter registration firms are embroiled in real voter registration scams - including the destruction of Democratic registrations. One was arrested Saturday. Not Mickey Mouse, this is the real thing.

POPSAl-Qaida website wants McCain elected Their recruitment "requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain..." They want the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to continue. Urges strikes against US prior to election to stimulate revenge votes for McCain.

POPS"I don't want everybody to vote!" Conservative activist Paul Weyrich in 1980 lays out long-term strategy to suppress voting, insisting "our leverage in the elections...goes up as the voting populace goes down.

POPSDrudge ad pictures Obama and Mohamed Atta Maybe this is just what we need in order to bankrupt the long-lived idea that elections can be won by pitching fear of the Scary Black Man. Farewell, Carl Rove. Farewell, Lee Atwater. Most Americans don't want your ways anymore. Let's go out and trounce them.

POPSWhy the ACORN kerfuffle is a GOP hoax ACORN hires canvassers. ACORN checks all the names they bring in. ACORN marks the ones that don't add up, and turns them in, as required by law. We hear about them BECAUSE ACORN HAS IDENTIFIED THEM. And federal law requires those who register in this manner to show an ID when they come to vote the first time. Will Donald Duck be voting? Not unless he has an ID to show. Not one known instance of voting fraud has come from any ACORN-registered voters. Not one!

POPSNobody in this election is a true "leftist" Both candidates - and nearly all American politicians - fall within a narrow band of center-rightists. Nobody in this election is even on the same side of center as socialism is - and raising the socialism alarm is pretty un-informed. Here's a graph from the primary days that explains it well. By the way, Ron Paul is not the most libertarian of the early candidates, either!

POPSPrevent bailouts? Prohibit campaign contributions We must advance to a system where elections are publicly funded and private donations are prohibited. Both of our candidates are connected by money to the banking industry. The industry's influence toward killing regulation far exceeds the public's influence in preserving it. Separating money from politics - as other nations have long done - is the only way home.
