POPSBook Nerd Fun: The paperback game I've never played this game before. But my family was never that into games. We did play Monopoly once. It was the most intense Monopoly game of my life! I think I was about 12 years old and someone gave it to our family for Christmas. My mom never grew up with those kind of boardgames so she really wanted to learn how to play. At that point, my siblings, friends and I were just kind of making up rules. Who reads the rules to these games? You just play!!! Anyway, my mom got in to the rules. She would stop us every few turns and say, "Wait! I have to look that up?" in her Taglish. We were all looking at her like "rules?!?! What are you talking about I have to play taxes?!?!" First of all, "What the heck are taxes?!?!" I think at one point I was 10 millions dollars in debt. I don't even know how a person gets in debt on Monopoly but it happened!!!! Anyway, this game would not be that intense but it would be just as hilarious.

POPSBattle of the Kids Books: IT'S ON it's that time of year again. I do love the SLJ battle of the books. This year, we have a most of them but 2 are a little too young for our community. So, good luck to all the books and happy reading!!

POPSComics? Graphic Novels? Do you care? My opinion, not all comics need to be fine literature. Sometimes readers just want to escape in them. Does the grammar bother me? Not as much as Geekdad! Definitely, an interesting bit of reading. What I can't stand is that "fine literature" trying to be graphic novels. The publishers are kind of going over board. Why does Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice need to be a comic? It really doesn't. I understand, the reluctant reader and "getting" them through comics/graphic novels but seriously, people will read what they want in whatever format they want it in.

POPSBoycott HarperCollins HarperCollins is limited the number of times ebooks can be checked out. 26 times is the limit. Why not just have a year long license? I get they want money but come on that's a weird limit.

POPSStop. Think. Click. October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Yesterday, I thought, I had posted about the FTC site OnGuard Online that has some helpful videos for kids, teens, and adults about being online. http://www.onguardonline.gov/ We spend a bit of time talking about online behavior and safety in our class but I always think that it is never enough. If you teach a tech class, do you talk about this with your kids or teens? I'm just curious because I am not sure how much time is devoted to this subject. Definitely, check out the website and also check out the Educause page http://www.educause.edu/ and their podcasts.

POPSE-Books : Textbook game changer Interesting article on the iPad. I'm looking at the Nook but I can see how iPad would be better especially with the interactive aspect. Is there a B&N app for the iPad? and if so, can you "share" books like you can with the B&N Nook?

POPSLibrary Pub in Hungary I am all about this. It would be the best of both worlds for me. Actually, this would combine my skills as a bartender (because I was a bartender in another life) and skills as an information specialist. Also, literary people like their libations, which I learned during the recent LitCrawl II.
